i5 6600k or i7 6700k for gaming?

Hi all, i need help deciding on a cpu. Im going to micro center tonight to buy either the i7 or i5 skylake. Their is a $90 difference between the two. I plan on over clocking. Will i notice a significant performance boost with the i7 or can i get the same performance with a overclockecd i5. Also is a hyper 212 EVO good enough for modest overclocking. Thanks!

i5 should be easier to OC since HT will increase heat output.

Depends on what games you play. If it's not optimized for 8 threads or more, you should be fine.

Strictly gaming ? i5 without a doubt, for everything else, HT may come handy in some situations (decoding, stream etc...)

Screw 212 Evo.
i5 is fine. i7 only has HT enabled and tiny bit more cache which is useless. i7 gives you no more cores just allows you to load the cores more. Worth the extra Intel is asking for for HT? No. HT should be enabled on all Intel CPUs and not an extra.

Well each core has 2 threads. And cache does matter

depends on what you plan to play, what resolution and if you plan using multi gpu

if you play with a single card at 4k/1440 at highest graphic detail, get the i5,

I get that but I'm confused because when I see benchmarks for all classes of skylake the i7 really has advantage over the others. Idk I don't want to waste money. Overclocking the i5 does close the gap. Also what's the cheapest cooler that will work

depends on the game even an OCed i5 would have a difference if the game can properly use more than 4t and/or is CPU Bound

i7 6700k. There are quite a few games that benefit from an i7 over an i5, some of which are known to stutter on i5's like Fallout 4.
