Low-Power Consumption Card for Server

I'm in the beginning stages of using my current X79 setup to replace an aging server in my home. Since X79/LGA 2011 does not offer integrated graphics, I'll need a discrete option.

This machine will drive a 1280x1024 panel only when remote access is not possible. That being said, the card in question should have native DVI or VGA to make things simple.

Idle watts is the top priority even if it costs more.

I have no preference for AMD or Nvidia.

You could get a RX 460. With the kind of performance increase over the predecessors and the new node, it could be what you'd be looking for. If you do not wait, you could get a GTX 750.

I was thinking GTX 750. Do the lower cards like the GTX 740 even less power.

As you can tell, my knowledge of low-end cards is not what it could be...

Well since you mentioned power consumption is also an factor, I suggested the 750, but you can also get an AMD 5450 low profile plug in card as well.

I'll take a look at the 5450. Thanks!

I notice the 740 is Keplar while the 750 is the 'little Maxwell that could'. That being said, the more powerful 750 is more efficient.
