ASUS X99-Delxue II NEW or USED ??

Hi,

Last week I ordered and received as ASUS X99-Deluxe II MOBO. There were a few things I noticed when I unpacked the board.
1 - The anti-static bag for the actual MOBO was only sealed at one end. The other end was open.
2 - The owner's manual was bent up in the lower right hand corner - like someone has paged through it before.
3 - There were several pads on the CPU socket that looked "different" - different color and with what looked like slight abrasions.

I installed the board and loaded it and after a few trials and tribulations, have it up and running Windows 10. I downloaded and ran the ASUS Product Registration application and filled out my info with the MOBO serial number. The program gave me an error and said that serial number had already been registered. I also tried to register the MOBO on-line and got the same message. I contacted ASUS technical support and they said that the MOBO was showing as registered to me and that there were no previous registrations. They also stated that the MOBO anti-static bag should have been fully sealed at both ends. What's odd is that I happened to watch a You Tube video that was an "Unprofessional Unboxing of an ASUS X99-Deluxe II" and that guy's MOBO anti-static bag was also open on one end. So when mine was that way, I figured that is just the way they come. When the Asus registration program and site said the MOBO was already registered, I began to get suspicious that this was not a brand new MOBO and had been returned to Amazon at some point by someone for some reason.

So if there is anyone out there who has purchased as ASUS X99-Deluxe II and opened up the packaging, can you please let me know if your anti-static bag was fully sealed or open at one end. The MOBO is working and I really don't want the hassle of an exchange from Amazon but I will do it if it turns out that the anti-static bag should have been fully sealed. I paid for a new board and I expect a new board. If this one was purchased and returned by someone, who knows what latent issue is lurking in my future.

Thanks in advance !!

I can't recall ever having a antistatic bag that is sealed both ends, just folded and taped.

I've never seen the anti static bag sealed at both ends. I purchased the same motherboard from Amazon... The bag for mine I don't believe was even taped just folded over. None of my z170 Asus boards were even in a bag... the bag was underneath them in the box. (they all appear brand new and unused).

The registration thing... I've had problems off and on with the Asus site. Sometimes I can't register a product at all... it took me a few weeks to even get my MG279Q monitor and my Fury X to register.

Can't say for sure yours wasn't opened previously... but the bag would never be fully sealed... at best the open end would be folded over and taped as the other poster mentioned.

Most if not all hardware I bought that has a anti-static bag have them folded closed with tape or some sort of security seal to tell you that it hasn't been opened. I know EVGA is pretty good at this.

I care - I don't care if the anti-static bag is sealed or folded and taped shut. I do care if I was sold a used MOBO that was returned by someone else for whatever reason. Based on the helpful posts here, I think my MOBO was in fact brand new and the ASUS registration process is buggy (which is comforting in itself...). The other little things I noticed are minutia, with the exception of the oddly discolored pads on the CPU socket. I guess its OK because the rig is running stable and I got an OC of 4.9 GHz with the 5-Way Optimization process, on an i7-5820K. I am pretty happy with that.

Thanks to all. Case closed.
