Best thermal paste for high temperatures (up to 103 °C) - Page 2

I'd recommend electrical tape too, and I've seen people use transparent nail polish. smile.gif

You could also not use any of these insulators (I have liquid metal TIM under my CPU's IHS and no insulation), but especially since it's a laptop and it will most likely be getting tossed around a lot, I vote for the former.

I don't see a reason not to go with the Conductonaut since it performs much better and is only a tad more expensive. Applying a liquid metal TIM requires some preparation and is a bit harder, but there are plenty of ways to ensure your computer is safe during the process. Unlike a PC, where you can change the whole cooling system, this is really the only way I can hope to improve the temperatures on my laptop.

Seems like a no-brainer, at least on a laptop, since it's very easy to do and can save your computer. Better safe than sorry.

Yeah either electrical tape or some other form of electrical insulation around the bits you don't want shorting out is a wise precaution. You don't need to, but it hurts nothing, and might save your hardware.

You may as well remove the dust since you're going to repaste it too. The dust alone might be equal to 15-20C

Indeed, as I mentioned, it didn't go past ~90 - 95 °C when I got it, and most of that is probably due to the accumulation of dust. It is the main reason I'm opening it up, but the thermal paste has probably dried, therefore changing it is just as important.

Couldn't be happier with the results. The CPU and GPU do not throttle anymore: the CPU went down a good 10 °C compared to what I remember to be the stock temperatures and the GPU went from throttling at 80 °C to 65 °C at full load with the maximum overclock applied (1030Mhz). I added some screenshots with the before and after temps (same ambient temperature, 24 °C), as well as a picture with the heat sink and CPU/GPU. There was almost no paste left on either... I definitely regret waiting so long to open it up.

I honestly didn't expect it to have such a significant impact because of the laptop's poor cooling system (no vents, single fan), but it seems I was wrong. Definitely worth the money.
