That's why a game ready driver is absolutely needed for all major releases. They will simply optimize pascal cards further down the line and leave maxwell optimization in its current state. On the red side GCN may have long legs but it's partially due to all the rebranding. Sure it's better for certain functions that newer games are using due to console parity but if AMD was having a new chip every time they'd have left some in the dust as well.

And we won't really know the state until DX12 titles and new DX11 titles have been on the market for years.

What we do know is that MS and Sony, and maybe Nintendo will be using GCN for the next 6+ years.

For multi-plats, this could make a large difference... in DX12 at least where there might be less room for driver optimization.

Look at the DX12 titles now, Hitman and Tomb-Raider. Both console-centric DX12 titles, that perform much better on AMD hardware than nVidia's.

That's Zotac extreme which is faster than 980, the card used by the 'review' is 970 omega which is clocked 80Mhz less.

Anyway, wait for full reviews unlike these 1-2 games. 390X scores lower than 970 in GTA V for instance in TPU's review and RX 480 leaked gameplay videos looked to be at the same performance.

I guess DX12 and Async won't be used in any games in the future
maybe we will get 1 new AotS-like benchmark game per year redface.gif

So the stock RX480 is being compared to what is a GTX 980 stock equivalent card not to a 970 stock

It amazes me how half the ppl here on OCN seem to not understand the difference. frown.gif i know i am a new member and it's eye-poking obvious.
And 480 ran on unsupported driver as well. I can tell from the lack of boost clock.

GTA V isn't a good benchmark

eh, nvidia has far more resources they will definitely be competitive until their hardware can actually support DX12. Also i am sure that NVIDIA cards are faster in Tomb Raider, at least at the high end. Heck, it's not even a DX12 title.

Futuremark may as well buy the franchise.

an unnumbered AotS spin-off will be the first game to fully utilize DX13

such is its fate
