in the US, the minimum price you're going to find a 1070 for is 450$. You see some 1070's being scalped for 600-700$ and people are still buying them up.

1080's are being scalped for well over 1,000$

they're having major problems with stock.

plenty 1070s and 1080s here in Poland too, I snagged me a 1080 FE already $120 lower than the msrp price

I haven't had much of opinion on any of this. I;ve only been lurking these threads. Heck, it feels like a TV show.

It seems like no matter what card you buy (1080, 1070, 980Ti, 480, etc...), there are going to be people here that make it seem like a bad choice.

not to mention that this isn't even the 480 version that was supposed to OC and perofrm so well according to rumors. that was a 6+8 pin variant with custom cooling for $300. NOT the stock $199 model.

Oh so if the reference can't OC well, it should not be even mentioned and just tossed aside and we use the AIB with better cooling and higher OC and compare it to a reference 970 OC, just because it suited you oh mighty AMD fanboy?

So if we only need to take into account the AIB at 300$, than isn't the 1070 only 80$ higher is going to smash it to splinters with much superior performance at complete stock?
Kinda funny if you think about it.

Right on keep the red flame hate and the ignorance alive as you always do thumb.gif

i don't care either way as my GPU and possible upgrade will cost double these. but you guys are full of ****. The rumor suggesting a higher performing 480 were for a custom design which was said to cost around $300 bucks. Clearly not the card in this review. This card was always hinted to perform near a 390/970 to 390X/980 which according to this review it does. So what falls short of expectations set? The $199-$229 480 according to this review perforams exactly where it was hinted to. Whatever scrapped or possibly BS from the start $300 8+6 pin custom card that was purported to come close to Fury X/980Ti territory is not on display in any test and likely doesn't exist.

so tell us, what hype was fallen short of? you're making a strawman argument in order to bash AMD when there's nothing to bash.

don't start getting defensive now because your BS is getting called out.

seriously, find ONE post anywhere claiming that the reference RX480 would match 980ti.

I have an exclusivity deal with amazon. bruce.gif

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2969918&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-Veeralava%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6202798&SID=NIS_925

Also, I would bet these "problems with stock" are artificial. I bet tommorow that problem with stock will magically go away, and you'll see the 1070 and 1080 everywhere for FE prices.

Both of my 970's on modded bios push over 200w. This is a screen shot of HWiNFO64 after gaming. BF4@1440 120mhz.

I think a lot of us(yes I include myself) are looking at this card wrong. This card, in my opinion, wasn't made to compete with nVidia directly. It was designed to bring new users into the community. I think it will. Most of here want to push the limits of the hardware. I've been following most of the 480 threads, and I don't remember AMD saying it will hit 980ti numbers. I think for the $$/perf, this may be a great card for users to either A) move from consoles B) upgrade their existing(old gen) cards. Especially at 1080p.

Oh...as for 3.5Vram.....Newegg refunded me 50.00. smile.gif The second card came with a free game. So all in all, I get around 980ti performance for less that 500.00.

These threads are all filled with speculation. Forget about waiting for actual numbers.....there is hype/bashing on both sides. AMD stock it up .40 to 5.12. Wish I would have bought it back in Feb. for 1.87/share. lol

So it's definitely quite efficient, it's just not at pascal levels of efficiency.

Here's what I think happened to p10--->

there is a full P10 with 40 CU still out there, it will probably never come out, because it failed to validate, something went horribly wrong.maybe p10 even had 64 ROPs...

So they took a P10 and cut the crap out of it, and instead of a 300$ card that could compete with the 1070, they had to release two cut P10's. for much cheaper than they had originally intended.

instead of 300$ and 200$ P10 with a 150 and 100$ P11, they had to settle for a 200-230$ cut P10 that was OC'd past what it was originally going to run at, a further cut P10 clocked at essentially what AMD had planned it to run at all along (470) which happens to have much better power efficiency than the 480.
I think in a way, all of the Polaris rumors were true.
  • The full P10 which was originally planned most likely would've hit 980 Ti levels and would have competed with the 1070.
  • source
  • HardOCP reported failed validation:

  • 200$ polaris 10 competes with 980:

Most likely the r9 490 would have been announced first if it were working perfectly. AMD itself said it was working extending polaris up and down the stack. Do you think it really meant just overclocked board-partner 480's? Do you think it meant dual 480 cards? Or is it more logical to assume that they are working on a p10 revision to fix the rumored issue with the 490?

I think my speculation is at least somewhat possible. Would AMD really admit to making a GPU that failed validation or would they just salvage it and sell it for less? This would account for the perf/watt problems that the 480 is rumored to have.... Of course it's all speculation from me.

Personally I think AMD just sold the full chip to Apple, or maybe Microsoft for Scorpio. They probably needed a quick solid cash source which helps them investing some more into the 490/Zen/whatever comes after. Lets not forget AMD has been bleeding money for a long time.
