[VC] First RX 480 benchmarks hit the web - Page 56

I have the inner nerd gut feeling that it will match 980 performance and the aftermarkets will overclock to 1600mhz+ with insane scaling biggrin.gif

Don't be too hyped, seriously. It's not worth the disappointment if it doesn't meet your expectations.

However, GTX 980 performance is a totally realistic expectation, and from what I've seen of the RX 480 it looks like it will come to fruition.

Overclocking capability is another thing entirely, and we know next to nothing about it.

Was expecting 980 and above to be honest. Shows how far AMD is behind despite a node shrink and architectural changes.

Disappointing.

Vega might as well be 1080 level if its anything to go by.

Its at the level of a fairly OC'd 970, which is the same as a 980. Not seeing the problem.

Thread Starter
Stock GTX980 performance is granted. And I believe it's better than that.

I don't know why some people insist it's 970 performance, just because of that overclocked AMP on the polish magazine.
So I can underclock a GTX1080, and then I'd say the RX480 is GTX1080 perfomance.
Sad thing to mention, but it feels like some people here wish it would fail big time. Well it won't be a fail, wait and see.

Can't wait for reliable and complete gaming benchmarks.

So far these pre NDA leaks have been quite disappointing. I was expecting it preforming 10% more than the r9 390X. What a bummer if these are true.

"but the performance isn't known yet...." comments dropping in 3..2..1....

lol how much is vega gonna pull ?

Stock performance looks fine, it's the OCing that's concerning. If a 480 can manage 1500mhz it will be crazy fast but that's not looking likely at this point.

We have no idea what type of 970 OC did they use. Did they manually OC a 970 or used a AIB?
Most AIB factory OC 970s aren't in the 980 performance and they can be 10-15% slower than a stock 980.

So don't count on it being even close to a 980 performance if that is the case. Also it is slightly lower than the 970 OC by about 7-8% (most likely better at DX12 but not in DX11), so it might also really depends on driver performance on DX11.

And since a 970s can usually be OCed for another 10% performance, and if the rumours are true that you can't really OC the basic 480, I would not expect high performance out of the 480s. Especially at the 980 or 390x performance. That is way to optimistic for AMD.
