Is this backlight bleed or glow? LG 27UD68 - Page 3

Yeah, the white glow I see with my eyes is nothing like the pictures. I can see slightly brighter corners if I look for them on a totally black screen, but they go away as I move my head around. Interestingly enough, I tried another black test on YouTube that was actually more of a very dark gray, and the uniformity looked much better. That's the strange thing about this screen, black uniformity is okay considering it's an IPS, but the moment you start looking at a screen that is more gray or is a color or white, the uniformity is excellent.

The TN ROG swift, at least for me, had extreme contrast shift that stood out even in the corner of my eye, and the blacks weren't much better than here. I tried using a tv, the Samsung js9000, and that had the best blacks I've seen outside of oleds with the right settings, but there was still glow, the colors were not as nice as they are on the LG, and it feels much slower than the LG.

I will keep using the LG, and see how it works out over the coming days. I play mainly Overwatch and WoW currently, and they look great. Doom looks very nice, but IPS glow is more noticeable in certain areas when my room is darker. Let me know how your replacement works!

So my replacement is really worse, it was really damaged in shipping, really beat up box, and all of the pixels along the top are dead, probably hundred of them. There's also two odd red streaks in the middle of the monitor's panel, which i expect happened in shipping too.

I must ask, did you just pick up yours from the store off the shelf? I hear backlight leed is most commonly cuased by the monitor's screen being pressured during shipping, warping it. The closest Best Buy, which is where I got mine from, that has this monitor on their shelf is 3 hours away, and every time they ship me a monitor to my house, they just ship the whole monitor box itself, no other protective box or packaging.
I am thinking of just ordering one for in-store pickup, hoping they treat the monitor nicer shipping it this way.

Wow I'm sorry to hear that!

I had originally got it at Best Buy (pick-up in store) and that one had bleed, and I returned that for a refund and ordered off Amazon to get a black one, and that one was much better. Amazon put it in an actual shipping box with packaging paper for cushioning.

One thing to keep in mind is that Best Buy may have their monitors laying around longer as it is a brick and mortar store with a smaller set of clients at any individual store, whereas Amazon has more consumers - especially those interested in tech - and so their monitors may go off the shelf faster. I have no concrete evidence of this, but I would think that means you are more likely to get a more recently made monitor that has been packaged up for less time from Amazon rather than Best Buy. Amazon may have sales coming up on it too.

Let us know what happens, hope you get a good one!

Opted to get one store delivered, but I don't see it getting too much better. UPS is just rough. The Best Buy employees were just shocked at how torn and dented the box was. A little googling shows this isn't a new issue, Best Buy never properly protects shipped product apparently.

Gonna take your advice, keep watching the monitor on Amazon during Prime Days, and if it gets close to $400, I'll just buy it from there. Thanks for the insight!

I also got a 27ud68 and it has massive backlight bleed (lights up the table with "pure blacks") and stuck pixels so definately going to RMA it soon. Hoping on getting a much better unit, seeing as some reviewers are saying that the "blacks almost blend with the bezel".

If it's lighting up the table with a black screen, chances are you're using it in a dark room. You're supposed to use IPS monitors with a bias light or in a well lit room; otherwise, there's absolutely no chance the blacks will "blend in with the bezel".

The Glow can't be ridden of, but of course he already realizes that. The real problem is the backlight bleed and the stuck pixels, those are definitely defects. Depending on where you bought it, try to return it and get your replacement shipped to the store if possible, or take one off the shelf.

Best buy REALLY beat up the box on mine by not shipping it properly, resulting in thousands of damaged pixels along the top, discolored areas and horrible backlight bleed. It was likely absolutely perfect when it left the shelf, all of the defects were clearly caused in poor handling during shipping.
If you bought yours at Best Buy Like I did, opt for in-store pickup instead of shipping to your home, it will be treated better in shipping. My monitor looks like UPS just threw this monitor around as if pillows were inside of it...

Notice the two large red smears on this one's picture right in the middle, likely caused from being pressed in shipping, alongside the bad bleeding.

No monitor would ever leave the factory with this many dead pixels, this was definitely caused in shipping and handling.

Fingers crossed the third one is the charm, otherwise I'll be taking my money and throwing down a little more, and trusting Amazon to get one safely to me.

Wow yeah that one shouldn't have made it out of the factory if it was like that originally. I had recently tested a VA monitor and those blacks are certainly impressive, but I find that the colors of IPS monitors are just so much more noticeable.

I have glow, certainly, but in actual use it really isn't seen.

Well, third monitor looked fine in the box, it wasn't beat up as I got in store pickup this time from Best buy, but sure enough, in a dark room, I see very yellow corners just like I had in my first post on my first monitor attempt in this thread...
Really unsure, seems basically all of these from Best Buy have this issue, like their whole stock is either mistreated or of a lower grade.

In pitch darkness, you're telling me you see no yellow spots in the corners of your monitor ShinyRedKnight? I'm not sure if having to take $399 of Best Buy Instore credit, then spend a whole nother $479 on Amazon would be a great solution, and then I could also run the risk of Amazon's being like this also, maybe all of them are...

Fulcrum52, keep me updated with how your replacement is.

You're dealing with IPS. They have IPS glow. IPS glow also makes BlB look worse. Some models will be worse then others. If you're on your 3rd with the same problem then you even need to accept that's just how it is, or, change to a different model. Though this is a common complaint with most IPS out there so, you might want to look into VA or something before driving yourself crazy over this.

IPS monitors are not meant for dark rooms. They're meant to be vibrant and bright which is good for bright rooms or maybe bias lighting.
