Is this backlight bleed or glow? LG 27UD68 - Page 4

OP, as well as all of the review videos I've been seeing, have been receiving models with minimal to zero backlight bleed. IPS glow I can live with, I've got another IPS with zero backlight bleed, and it's fine for night usage. It's the fact that a shade of yellow blocks all but the center of my screen in dark images that I cannot stand.

In dark games, I feel as though I'm playing with tunnel videion, and can't distinguish anything in the corners of the monitor
very hindered experience

The white corners, caused most likely by IPS Glow, that is normal as seen on page 2 in OP's pictures, that I can live with, but when it's quite literally covering and discoloring in game image and elements... that's a large problem.
This man's seems absolutely perfect: https://youtu.be/o4t8GKHRT58?t=5m14s
and so did the reviewer's on the first page.

Contemplating on contacting LG directly, but I feel as though they will be the worst trouble of all to try and go to for replacement.
As OP said, they had best luck with Amazon's stock, and theirs wouldn't be damaged in shipping thanks to conscious packaging, but Amazon's is $539 right now, $139 more than what I got it at Best Buy for...

I understand what you mean, and that it's a common thing, IPS glow is a side effect, but backlight bleeding is a defect. This wouldn't be such a big deal if I was paying $150, or if it wasn't in 4k, or if the bleeding didn't literally blotch out the screen, but sadly, all of that doesn't apply here...

What brightness is that at? You shouldn't notice it in normal content. Maybe all black screens like a menu. But that looks bad.

Yea, I took some pictures of my main monitor and it didn't look nearly that bad even on all black.

There's a little glow on all black, a little worse then you can see in the picture. But, not nearly like what's in yours.

*Had to load the game up again after looking at the screen shots and yea, it's worse then in the pictures. Edges look washed out without a doubt. Hard to get a good representation of it.

Sorry for the late reply! In a dark room with a pure black screen, I definitely see lighter corners that shift, no yellowing. I do not see anything like the Witcher screenshots, at least not with my naked eye.

Its really strange that Best Buy is having such issues. I think the problem is a combination of the IPS having defects that are much more noticeable due to the nature of the technology, along with specific conditions in this scenario that increase the likelihood of finding them in such an extreme state.

You are certainly seeing extreme blacklight bleed. If you don't want to spend the extra money from Amazon, consider testing another IPS monitor from that Best Buy (if you still want IPS) to see if it fairs any better. It could be that by chance this Best Buy got a poor stock of this particular monitor, or is getting returns from other Best Buys and reselling them ( I honestly have no idea what the rules/laws are about them reselling it at full price).
yeah, I'm still set on getting one from Amazon, but don't think I can trust any seller on their except Amazon themselves with their padded Prime shipping. it was $489 last week, a pill I could have swallowed, but now it's $539 from Amazon... -_-
Shouldn't have to be paying so much more when I've already got it at a bargain of $399 from Best Buy, but there's likely a reason I got it so cheap from them...
Honestly, the new one today looked flawless from the outside, sharp edged box, little signs of damage from the outside, yet based on which direction I flex the screen, it seems all 4 corners need to be pulled forward for the glow to disappear, meaning in shipping, it was either dropped a lot or lots of weight was on it with the screen facing down, putting pressure on the center, and warping all 4 corners backwards.

Part of this has to do with the Monitor's packaging, other part the shipping practice, but I'm not set on any other IPS from Best Buy, or really any seller... nothing has this image quality, aesthetic, and feature set for under $500 like this one does...

Currently considering returning to LG, but I always fear working with manufacturers, an already returned refurb is the last thing I would want as a replacement, and my warranty with Best Buy is only 15 days because they're slimy bastards like that , so I'd be giving up my $399 price if something went wrong, locked into a manufacture return cycle just the same :jealoussmiley.gif

Would it be too much to ask for Best Buy to properly package them for shipping, and even so, could STILL come this way if Best Buy was just supplied a bunch of B-level panels for low sales... Yet of course it has 76 outrageously positive views, very view even mentioning backlight bleeding.
Considering driving 3 hours away to pick one up off the shelf at a large Best Buy, but man would I be disappointed and angry if that didn't make a difference either...

Nice monitor btw Chargeit. See, if you can get an Ultrawide with minimal bleeding (usually infamous for bleeding), I should definitely be able to get a 16:9 4k with an acceptable amount, haha

That is actually a very common issue with current gen monitors. Its a crappy IPS panel type that is nearly every where. LG, Dell, Asus ect all use the tech and the nasty thing a bout is is that its very susceptible to pressure haloing (you know how IPS panels start to glow is you for example push with your finger on it). Due to this any small imperfections in the mounting will cause it to light up in the corners due to the mounting points.

yeah, I edited my last post, touched on why I think this keeps happening in shipping. Like 0.5 inches of foam are what separate the screen from the inside of the cardboard of the box... and then Best Buy has the audacity to ship this thing across the country as is, no external box or extra packaging through UPS, literally slap a label over the box's logos. Even shipping straight from the warehouse to the Best buy near me, it got damaged like this, and a similar experience ShinyRedKnight had with his first one from Best Buy.
Partly LG's fault, partly Shippings fault. Just not sure if adventuring to pull one off the shelf would make any difference. Amazon's stock is likely best treated, and shipped snuggly, and ShinyRedKnight's seems to have been a golden sample from them.
"4th time's the charm" shouldn't be an experession I have to use for a $500 item... and worst part is, this is the 7th 4k monitor I had replaced from Best Buy due to shipping damage (more dead pixels and firmware glitches), the first one was a TN, and I thought maybe this one would fare better.

Yeah. I don't think getting one strait from an shop would make any difference. They are like this from factory and most of them would be considered in spec to boot due to the measuring devices not extending out to the corners (they are round most of the time).

The sad truth is that high end panels have taken an step back in quality due their attempts to cut cost.

Well, the problem for me is it's hard to get a good picture of any glow/bleed. I'd say the bleed on my monitor is minimal and not something I notice. Though I get glow in darker scenes without a doubt.

I had to go back and look again. I'd say from a normal sitting position (had to sit far back to get the whole screen on camera) these parts of the screen start washing out in dark content.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Though your pictures looked really bad and unless the camera is exaggerating them I wouldn't want to keep the monitor.

Yeah, I don't want to keep it either if at all possible, though believe it or not, this one is LESS defective than the others I had as seen earlier in the thread.

I took the bullet and overpaid quite a bit for another one directly from amazon ($539!) seeing if their safer shipping and handling, and likely newer and better cared for stock has the same issue.
If it has the same issues, I'll just return it and continue to pursue Best Buy.
honestly it shouldn't be this hard to get a panel with acceptable specifications, though I completely understand why it's common because of the fragile panel construction

I lost the Lottery for a 4th time, worse than I ever have before...
And this time, it was Amazon's fault? (well really, UPS's fault)

I'm not sure what else I can do... clearly it isn't safe to even ship these things with an external box and mounds of protective brown paper, UPS will still find a way to bust it... This was premium Prime shipping, fulfilled by Amazon!

Seriously considering driving 3 hours away to take one off the shelf at this point.
So utterly frustrated. 6th defective monitor in a one month time span, holy **** mad.gif
