If that is true, it should have performance around the GTX 970.

Curious to see how Nvidia prices this GPU.

Mmmm, now that sounds very nice. Especially if it sips watts in comparison. Depending on price I may actually get this 1XXX series card to do TC with. Then again, one would have to OC very well considering my current 960 holds up in folding with 780s. biggrin.gif

but the price and 3GB is a fail

no SLI (if true) is also fail

but they'll sell some anyway redface.gif, provided they have stock for the 14-th

In complete agreement

No way I would pay $300 for a 1060 and no way I would buy the 3gb.

If past is any indication it would be equal to the 970 or just slower. Though, the 1070 performs very well for having 25% cut, could we see 1080 minus 40%? I doubt it but that would be a winner

192bit sounds just terrible but with their compression it should be adequate
post #73 of 199
thing is 1070 has exactly 33% less CUDA than 1080, but is only 20% slower

so 1060 could pull some performance rabbits out of a hat even with 1280 SPs (even more so now when stock 480 barely barely outdoes a 970/390) .. keeping similar ratios the 1060 would easily beat a 480 and maybe even inch out a stock 980 .. dunno if they can do it though

but if they could - a $300 1060 6GB would be competitive in p/p with the 8GB 480 (also keeping in mind Nvidia always costs a little extra rolleyes.gif) .. and if they cant beat 480, then they need to bring the price down to $250 for 6GB

It's for sure possible, but a bit on the optimistic side. If happened it would be a good 15% over the 480 and could justify (with branding) a $50+ premium

I think you're having a little trouble with the math behind the numbers. Let me try and help.

GTX 1080

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1080

2560 Cuda Cores

GTX 1070

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1070

1920 Cuda Cores.

2560 * [1-(1/3)] = 1706 33 % LESS

2560 * [1-(1/4)] = 1920 25% LESS

1920 * [1+(1/3)] = 2560 33% MORE

1920 * [1+(1/4)] = 2400 25% MORE

You have to keep in mind which direction you're going. The inverse of 3/4 is 4/3, and you confused the two. Your entire argument needs to be revised based on the actual numbers, additionally. What the numbers mean is that the 1070 has 75% of the CUDA Cores the 1080 has, and the 1080 has 33% more CUDA Cores than the 1070 does. Does that make sense?

GTX 1060? Currently a phantom product.
I can guarantee you that is not the case. Not for sale yet assuredly. Not a phantom product....and I know a lot about those.

1060 launch reportedly moved to July 7th - http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/gpu_displays/gtx_1060_launch_reportedly_moved_up_to_july_7th/1

If this is true, it would likely mean that the 1060 is going to outperform the 480 right from the start and be close in price. If that were not the case, one would think they would have held it back.
wow i guess 1060 snuck up on us like a god damn ninja

everyone were like October or September then bam 7-14 July

granted there will be shortages but if its a good performer with a good stock cooler and an ok price ....

Pretty good timing considering that's expected to be around the time 480 aib cards start rolling out. I'll be waiting at least that long anyway so why not entertain the 1060 as well. Works out best for consumers for there not to be a long timeframe between the releases.

One thing is for sure, there's not enough time between now and then for the hype to reach critical mass like the 480 did lol
