Concerns with my Asus Maximus VII Hero board

Thread Starter
Been a while since I posted anything. Life just got in the way basically and my system collected dust for the better part of 9 months. Well, now I am back and after running m system for about a week now. It totally flaked out and gave me that BSOD. Doing research etc once it would not boot back up, I came to the conclusion it might be my 120 gig SSD. Everything else seemed to register when in BIOS... CPU appeared Fine, RAM tested fine, Mainboard still did all the things it did before.

Yet, it would not start and kept saying windows error please insert windows disk etc to repair. It seemed like an endless loop for lack of another phrase. No matter what I tried doing, I could not get it to boot from my USB drive, nor would it boot with my copy of Windows 7 I had. (This is with new SSD) After a couple hours of tinkering, doing internet searches and not having any luck whatsoever,

I put my old drive in and tried to boot it up. Wouldn't you know it.... started right up.

So, right away I cloned the SSD to new one, just in case. In my travels of research etc, I read on numerous forums and threads, that the Maximus Hero boards, for lack of another phrase, have some sort of affliction. That you cannot utilize a USB drive to boot from and or install Windows from. Plus, for the longest time I had that startup error where I just had to disable those two startup files. Not to mention overall over the past 1.5 years it has been a finiky strange running board to say the least. This is the system listed below.

Now, I am not wanting to Upgrade and or Rebuild my whole computer, I would be happy just getting a quality Z97 Board which I can run my current system on and that if I want to, I can use my USB drive to boot from and or install windows from. Wont do me much good if this system flakes out again. I am really pleased with the CPU performance and everything except the issues I have experienced and those my friends have experienced that own the same product.

Any suggestions would be welcomed as I am sure there have been plenty of boards out there with which to be compared to for the best features and performance.

The use of my system is still the same, MMO gaming 8-10 hrs a day most of the time.

thanks

Sucks your having issues, but there are a ton of board to really choose from, personally i tend to go off the highest rated ones for a older release like Z97. Idk how much you want to spend but ive 2 solid options ( and the highest rated on newegg ) One MSI at 149$ with a 10$ rebate right now, and One ASRock at 109$ with a 25$ rebate right now. Both are super solid boards with the best ratings just figured i'd give you 2 price points. there are tons of options though and these are just 2 of alot of other great choices. Hope this helps a bit biggrin.gif (I am shocked your board doesnt windows boot off usb, ive never had a mobo like that, very freaking odd tbh. but these 2 boards should be totally fine, havent had issues in the past with either company. )
