This is kinda what I was wondering as well since that is supposed to be providing more power savings. And it would kinda make sense why lowering the voltage actually increases performance. Another thing they did say is they will bring down idle power draw in drivers so there might be a fix for it.

Not likely.

Seems to me that AMD messed up big time as it pertains to the power delivery of their new RX 480. If I were to buy an RX 480... it would be from Asus/Sapphire and a custom design not a reference card.

Well see when RX 470 comes out. If it is able to overclock and consume less, that would give an idea what is happening to 480. Plus I read somewhere that power saving options in 480 have not been turned on - don't know if that's true

There is a power efficiency button in crimson but it really gimps performance right now. Also its the first AMD card I have had in a while so I dont know if that option was always there or not.

I see.
But then again, does that mean that it can be corrected in custom boards or P10 was designed for other than desktop services (PS4 ad mobile). As the way I'm seeing it, below 1Ghz the chip is not bad, just not competitive in desktop.

Hm. I have a HD6870, so no Crimson for me.
Was thinking of getting RX 480 but custom board, so I will see what you're talking about...
Power efficiency button that limits FPS, to save power or something else?

Would you speculate performance of a enthusiast grade card like a R9 Fury X(Vega 10 Replacement) with the performance of the R9 280(X)(Rx 480)?

Fury X was pretty much a double 280X, and TPU show it's anywhere from 1.7-1.9x better than 280X depending on resolution. Close but still not quite 1:1 scaling. And this is with GCN 1.0 to GCN 1.2 improvements mind you.

So like I said, if Vega is basically a double P10 chip, we can expect somewhere around stock 1080 performance, give or take 10%. Which means a Vega chip with 4096 shaders would likely fall short of 1080 performance.

I'll post a screenshot of it when I get home. I only had it on once and noticed the hit and turned it off right after that so I didnt test much with it. There might be more to it so I will check it out when I have some time this weekend.

Oh... custom boards will be perfect. Once they start hitting reviews I think that everyone will forget the shortcomings from the reference board (aside from higher relative power usage to Pascal).
