Please do elaborate. Explain how 240W spikes through the PCIe MOBO X16 slot is less harmful than a slightly higher average of 79W with way lower peaks, I'm eager to learn from you.



Those spikes? Ignore them all, the average is still below 75W so who cares that they happen 45 times per minute, I'm sure your Motherboard/PSU don't care because nVidia, your PC components will only care if its AMD.

Yes, the RX 480 average is slightly higher over the PCIe but with way lower spikes, my question remains unanswered, WHAT IS WORSE?, I can see how intermittent spikes can damage any PC component more than average power consumption with lower spikes.

Again, I'm aware that every PC component presents this issue due to the inherent way electricity is delivered, but it's been proven some suffer higher spikes than others, some being the GTX 960 Strix and others being the RX 480.

The GTX 750Ti, GTX 960, R9 295X2 were never an issue, the RX 480 shouldn't be, the fact that Polaris 10 efficiency sucks is the only issue I see.

Protip: Both are bad,hence why both of those cards had people worried.

The spikes are normal, that much is well known ever since I first posted, what you don't seem to understand is me pointing out that despite some 100W spikes are normal 240W spikes like the one posted above for the GTX 960 is not, and is probably as harmful if not more than a sustained average power consumption of 79W.

Ok,and? What does that do for the RX 480 PCI-E issue?

Take your Green vs Red war elsewhere if you're not concerned about the real issue.

I'm happy you have that so strictly defined. For me I'd rather have a slightly higher PCIe X16 average power consumption of 79W with lower DC cycle peaks like with the RX 480 than a lower average power consumption of 73W but 45 monstrous 225W+ peaks over the PCIe X16 MOBO slot every 60 seconds like with the GTX 960.

But that's just me I guess.

You always can buy a different 960.

Can you do that with the RX 480? Not currently since there are no custom card.

Yes you can, the 4GB RX 480 which doesn't have these "issues" (Non issues really), guess you just like the create "Real Issues" as often as possible huh? Bet your next real issue is how everyone with 8GB RX 480s will burn their house down and that nobody can avoid it because the 4GB on the RX 480 that doesn't have these "issues" have another "issue" which is not enough VRAM for 4K super sampled.

NO it does not!

if you have a 150 watt chip then it would have to use BOTH (spec'd) 75 watt sources. and it IS a pci-sig requirement to keep those sources (connector/slot) separate; why the two vrm banks aren't tied together.
