I agree, three years of mining did probably put a real strain on stuff. Say the motherboards 24-pin connector. How strange that it eventually failed rolleyes.gif

Pretty handy actually, and as the RX 480 has the same PWM controller it shouldn't be too hard right?

Been running Furmark for a couple of minutes.

I'm not sure, but I think since Fiji cards AMD has limited the access to I2C controllers. If they haven't then the same data is available.

@Offler

1 & 2, yes there is % tolerance.

On 3 I sort of agree, but from what I'm understanding from reading various things the PCI-E slot has say 5x 12V pins each only 1.1A IIRC, then there are other electrical "factors" which means it really can't take a pounding on consistent high loading/out of spec IMO.

The peaks shown in say THG data for RX 480 or other cards from what I'm understanding don't hold as much relevancy as they occur due to switching, etc and consistent/average usage is what we should view or be concerned about. This is where the RX 480 is higher than past AMD cards from data I've been looking at.

THG data for 390X / Nano / Fury X / RX 480 (Click to show)

Most places quote PCI-SIG info on 6/8 pin PCI-E plug, hardware limit is higher. If the card was not loading PCI-E slot and hitting 6 pin more it would be OK IMO and even if we OC'd which would lead to a little more power usage on PCI-E slot we'd have the headroom.

PCI-E plug hardware data (Click to show)

On older cards that is true to some degree, but on this and all kepler and newer nvidia cards the card will downclock once it hits it's power limiter. The cards get less efficient when they run hotter, but for these new cards that just means they run slower. Getting too warm in the room has less to do with the cards being run and more to do with the ability of the cooling system of their room to cope with that much heat output when the air outside is that hot. Trust me, I'm in Australia, it hits 50C here in the shade in summer.

Wel canceled my order of ref rx 480 -.- gues thats 2-3 more weeks on a realy old 4xxx card for me sigh hate pc's dying
post #816 of 1129
you should all be aware by now, the 6 PIN on the RX480 can pull 150W and not just 75W

This is due to having 3 earth grounds instead of 2 grounds + 1 sensing.

Cards have been sucking more then the specs of the 6 pin for ages now but im more concerned about the pci e power draw as that effects all my pci lanes so audio card and more thats in there
post #818 of 1129
Probably originally card was designed to run at lower voltage some reviewers says that when under-volte -0,1V cards increase performance by 4% and decrease power draw for around 20-30W sweat spot biggrin.gif
But at some point of production they increase V to increase stability and forget to redesign power distribution wink.gif

Each pin can handle 8A - 6pin PEG has 2 or a total of 16A (most power supplies include three) but with 2, a 6pin PEG should safely provide bellow 192 watts.

I don't understand this: are there 3 active pins on every modern 6 pin connector or 2?
