The article states that the fix will come at a minimal performance cost yet if you read the statement you'll see that the performance penalty is only there for the compatibility toggle which is a separate thing.... What a joke do these people seriously not read the crap they're writing an article about?

I doubt I'll be accused of being an AMD fanboy (see my sig below) but I find AMD's RTG division more nimble AND responsive to the problem exposed by the RX480 PCI-E issue.

In my opinion, they have handled a potentially serious problem well. They are addressing it promptly and responsively.

KUDOS to Raja and his team.

If I had a 3rd system to build I would seriously look at a RX480:thumb:

There is nothing to contribute to. No damage has been reported, it will affect zero people. Everyone panties in a bunch because AMd has an edge over nVidia, and everyone wants AMD to fail. So lets blow this non-issue out of proportion...

THIS THREAD IS 95 PAGES TOO LONG... Period.

Tired of seeing screen space wasted on the front page for a non-issue...

When my RX480 comes in, I will not be using the "fix" and it will run for 5 years before I upgrade again...

A temporary fix for the excess PCI-E slot power draw for the reference RX 480 cards

Yeah, it's great to have such people in the community. true. But you have to do a vBIOS flash to fix it for good. And it will stress other 3 vrms by unbalaced power draw and 6-pin itself. Grantly latest is really not a big issue... But I don't like AMD's lie that it's the same non-issue about PCI-E overdrawn.
At the end AMD did slight disbalance and even had to give option to lower performance to completely fix it... but what for overclocking???

What has been your longest gaming session? Someone with an Asrock 970 said it blew after 7 hours of straight gaming.

I think running Heaven for 8 hours would tell a lot

TDP and watts are not the same. Fairly sure they claimed the 470 will be using 110W.

Affaik the VRMs are more than enough, so will handle the change no problem.

Many people have said the reference 480 is over engineered in that aspect.

Overclocking is a bonus and if you want to push your 6 pin connector beyond spec it's up to you, they can handle way more than people think.

This is nothing like the vram issue which was a blatant lie on the actual hardware inside and the way it operates, there is no fix or workaround for the vram issue on the 970.

The GPU is exactly 110W, but not the whole card.

I was being sarcastic.

When my 4GB RX 480 come in, I will flash it to the 8GB BIOS, mine Ethereum with it 24/7 for a year or two, then sell it on ebay as mint condition at 8GB price.
