Tips on overclocking and testing a weak graphics card?

Hey guys, recently I tried overclocking my MSI GT 740 2Gb v3 using MSI Afterburner and Unigame Valley, with help from a thread I read here. The wierd thing is that while i could get the core clock to run at over 100+ Mhz and the memory around 200+, put together it wouldn't go over 80+ core and 90+ memory compined. And even at the reduced speed of 50+ on both clocks, the card kept crashing to desktop on CSGO (Which if I am not mistaken is a CPU intensive game). Am I doing something wrong, or is it that my card simply won't overclock at all? (P.S. I can't change the power limit or the voltage, they are both locked, even when I checked it in the options)

You are probably not doing anything wrong. The maximum stable clock is the limiting factor here. You will just have to find a balance between the highest stable memory and core clock. You will probably have to compromise in between as like you said you get lower stable clock speeds when combined.

Well then, it seems it can't be helped. I'll do whatever I can though, because money's short and I can't at all afford an upgrate at this moment, so any tiny oc to get that 5 more FPS on Bf4 is gonna help biggrin.gif

With a MSI GT 740 being a low end GPU, OC is just not meant for it. The voltage/power is locked, not a OC GPU.
The GPU is just not that strong as it is. Factor in your CPU you use will determine what you can do.
