Crossfired 480's yesterday, Tri-Fire Now?

I formerly had a 290x in my build, but swapped it out for crossfired 480's. (Power consumption is less, therefor can run two and be faster). My results in Firestrike Ultra were pretty good.

Now should I tri-fire and see what the results are? Is the community interested/is it even worth it?

Done, Testing will be done later cause i had to run back to work. Ran into trifire issues (3dmark not using the 2nd and 3rd card?)

Awesome man, let me know what else you find out! Might have to check drivers if your on windows 10 when you added the 3rd card. It possible it crossloaded older drivers? Thank you for this i am excited to see results and temps as well!

Edit: just realized you have an AMD FX cpu, you may have overhead issues with 2x and 3x CF. If this is the case test 3x at 1080p then 1440p on FS/FSE
If you do run Heaven benchmark 4.0, please try 1080/1440/4k monitor gpu usage with something like MSI AB and see if at any point the GPU usage bounces around from one gpu to the others. If your able to get 100% load across all 3 gpus in 4k then see if it does the same for 1440p and 1080.

So overhead issue in dx11 would be like this example:

1080p
GPU1 0%
GPU2 100%
GPU3 0%

4k
GPU1 100%
GPU2 100%
GPU3 100%

To give an idea, i have a quadfire FuryX setup that i ran on 3 different platforms x99/990fx/x58 each one exhibited gpu overhead issues at different levels. x99 would max properly on 1440+ and sometimes 1080p - 990fx would only max gpus across all three @4k - x58 1440p somtimes and 4k all the time. Hope this makes sense!

Can you please test Overwatch if you have it with crossfire 2 GPUs. With my two RX480 at 4k at Epic settings I'm getting 20FPS. I'm getting 50 - 60FPS at 4k epic settings without crossfire.

I guess OCN has become the "NO" forum. Why even bother posting like this? If you read the thread you will see the OP already has 3 gpus. Let him find out what he can and can't do as he already has the hardware on hand. You aren't even sure if the OP does spend alot of time benching. Maybe in stead of posting "just no" offer some more insight. It does get old with people floating around telling everyone "no" or making one liner posts that come off negative.

So earlier today I decided to go nuts and buy a 3rd RX480. They estimated around 130-150 wattage per card so i figured i could pull 3 of them off without buying a new power supply (750W). I'm too lazy to have to redo cable management so this seemed like a fun test and a time to answer a question that was never asked.

I had some crossfire/trifire issue and 3dmark only used one card. I had to go back to work so i just left the computer idling all day and hoped my house would still be there. It was surprisingly considering the cars idle at 40-45C with the room at 74F

Turned out CCC disabled crossfire so i just re-enabled it and good to go. I ran 3dmark while paying attention to wattage and temps and the max my cards drew EACH was 131 watts. I took a printscreen but lost it during the 3dmark screenshots i was taking for results. Tempatures between all the cards was between 70-80C. Mainly staying in the lower 70's surprisingly. (All stock/automatic settings)

Firestrike Ultra Results:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12832894
SCORE: 6,689
TL;DR: Better then 980s in SLI, 20% faster then 980s in SLI?

Pricing (Micro Center Pricing, Cheapest cards I can find of those types)
3x RX480 - $749

Games that played great no problems with Crossfire and now Trifire in 4K: GTA V, Overwatch, Hearts Of Iron IV
Now gotta install my H115 and some other goodies. Should I even try to Quadfire next? also sorry, no fire.

might as well, just make sure you bump up your PSU if your system starts shutting off with a 4th card

I'd be curious to see your frame times & such from tri & quad fire. As you can tell, my last bout of tri-GPUs(3x gk110) caused me much frustration, and even a slight touch of buyer's remorse for like the first time ever in my life.

man, you make me want to buy a third 480.

I've since redid my rig with a 1080 because of the MB failure on the audio. Rather not take another risk with 480's. They are great cards but i personally had a bad experience that i can't directly prove it was the 480's. But my motherboards audio went out shortly after the 3 way crossfire benchmark. The performance was amazing though.

it's highly probable the PSU had a stroke as well. Even if it didn't hit max wattage & all that jazz.

Wow that really sucks. I'm assuming you just bought the Rampage V10. What board did you have before that? Rampage Extreme V?

This looks like fun! Imagine if multiple GPUs always worked! 3 480 cards vs 1 1080 lol.

How is the middle card getting any air?

Thanks for the benchmarks, I've been planning on running 480s in Tri-Fire, but my 980Tis didn't sell fast enough on eBay so I missed out on the initial release, I'm saving up for three when they become readily available now. I'll be purchasing a Wasabi Mango UHD490 here shortly, did you see full utilization of the third card at 4K?
