You also made up the numbers on the shaders. Your entire argument isn't based on any evidence. A quick search here:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9306/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review

That link which took me approximately 5 seconds to find, shows the Cuda Cores for each GPU.

Cuda Cores

GTX 980 Ti - 2816

GTX 980 - 2048

37.5% more, not 50%.

Texture Units

GTX 980 Ti - 176

GTX 980 - 128

37.5% more

ROPs

GTX 980 Ti - 96

GTX 980 - 64

50% more

Please stop making up numbers, spreading more misinformation because you're too lazy and can't be bothered to research for a few seconds.

I don't like your condescending tone, but I see that I made a mistake there.

I was thinking about the Titan X (3072) which has exactly 50% more cuda cores compared to the GTX 980 (2048) thumb.gif

And even then the Titan X is, like I said, not exactly 50% faster although it has 50% more shaders/cuda cores, but only 35%~.

Assuming that GTX 1060 "could" be equivalent to a GTX980, you should have nearly the double in terme of enhancement wink.gif

So GTX 1060 should be nearly 1.8x to 2x a GTX960.

Why maxwell was clocked so high this generation is it simply stable when it comes power consumption. Basically power doesn't go off the deep end until past 1400mhz which is why so many partners cards were overclocked to this range. Because the power is controlled, there is a less likely chance of long term degradation.

As I said on before, ln2 clocks give a preview of how well cards will clock on the next node, but we have to take into usability of AMD clocks vs Nvidia usability of clocks.

Because it is GCN and a more complex version of it, I am guessing 1.5ghz might be possible under the right scenario like a benchmark using conventional cooling, but the problem with AMD clocks at their upper limit is they are simply not usable for gaming. The Highest clocked we have seen so far using a water cooler hit 1.48ghz or so, but that was only running a bench, not stable for gaming. For stability, this card is probably going to clock more in the 1425mhz range with an AIB while gaming.

That 1600mhz rumor might have been from a partner like sapphire or XFX or powercolor who only sells AMD cards who have everything to gain by waiting for their higher margin card to be released.
To be fair the 1080 are not able to maintain their 2ghz+ clocks while gaming. They throttle back due to power targets and In the case of the FE thermal targets.

Do you see the problem here? If they said how they got those results, then it wouldn't as much of a problem.

LOL, at least there's some comedy in this thread. "...how far you can throw it?" biggrin.gif

With 50% less shaders, huge bandwidth cuts, rop/tmu cuts, I'm expecting the 1060 to be roughly 35% (difference between a 1070/1080 clock for clock is only ~8%) slower than a 1080.

So clock for clock (using 1962 for this estimate) FS GPU score would be around 14.7k. It will definitely be faster than a 980 at 1080p, but It isn't going to have much headroom outside of gains from memory oc's depending on how high they boost at stock.

*I'm also expecting a $299 msrp

As I'm in the targeted "upgrade range", should I be honored to witness such gimmick nonsense race from both companies ?

You are not taking all perspectives. The point is you need a reason not to buy a generation before card step-up. If it's RX480 performance it's almost the same as 970 performance. Why would you buy the 3GB 1060 instead of the 970 than?

Point is:

1080 > 980ti
1070 > 980
1060 > 970

And it's almost a whole last gen model up faster. So 1060 should not be as fast as a 970, it should be as fast as 980. Again talking, not all in numbers, cores etc.

Holy Hell!!!

It's like a single 1060 has twice the performance of a 480 and is 3x as power efficient. Marketing graphs at their finest.

That graph was actually proven earlier btw, by an nvidia scientist.
