I think it will be the other way round. rx480 will be faster in selected dx12 games or bench-games.

These questions come up and are often unanswered, so I'll just leave this here.

http://www.pcgamer.com/amd-liquidvr-vs-nvidia-vrworks-the-sdk-wars/

Direct-To-Display, Data Latch, Asynchronous Time Warp implemented as an Async Shader (runs parallel to the graphics queue in hardware), and Affinity MultiGPU. Nothing specific to Polaris, this stuff works across GCN.

It would be nice to have a comprehensive head-to-head once the dust settles and we have some decent AIBs and multi-GPU options.

I figured this belongs to this thread as much as it belongs to rx480 thread, since the autor promises to re-do the tests on 1060 instead of 970

GTX 970 21% faster than RX480 on i3 4170 3.7GHz in CPU bound scenarios
Quote:
In the case of the Radeon RX 480, nothing changes, so like before, card AMD needs a much faster processor than the GeForce GTX 970, that in critical moments provide the same liquidity.
Quote:
If anyone expected that, with the launch of the AMD architecture Polaris programmers removed through the problem of overhead or optimize the work of the driver, especially on the weak processors, DirectX 11, you may delete it from your dream list. Improvement probably never see again. Reds investing heavily in the promotion of low-level DirectX 12 and Vulkan, which (simplifying) the main idea is to squeeze the maximum out of graphics chips, while offloading the CPU. Too bad, because most games still intends to use DirectX 11, so the owners of Radeons may experience declines in pefrormance.

sorry for the google translation, but you get the idea...

the author says he'll repeat the tests on 1060 as soon as NDA is lifted

edit: I remembered our yesterday's "discussion" (in rx480 thread) on how Skylake i5 with DDR4 is very affordable for every RX480 buyer, so I decided to comapre both on a high-end CPU. Turns out that even if we compare GTX970 and RX480 both on i7 4790K 4.5GHz, RX480 is slower in CPU bound parts of games. 3% slower on avg. including dx12 Hitman, 8% on avg. including dx11 games only.

Selected? It should be faster in all DX12 games.

Hitman and Ashes sure, as per usual

the rest - we will see, I think equal or maybe 1060 can pull a bit ahead here or there

but then again what other DX12 games do they even test in reviews ? rolleyes.gif just RotR I think

thats how "widespread" DX12 is redface.gif

a comprehensive array of tests as of right now:
-Hitman, but only in dx12 mode where the memory restraint lowers textures on amd cards but shows better fps
-AoTS
-Warhammer dx12 beta
-Quantum Break

the list cannot include rotr, since it's nvidia sponsored and under no circumstances should the benchmarks mention that nvidia beats amd's dx12 results in dx11. AMD's lead should then be multiplied by 2.8x, which is the power efficiency improvement on Polaris architecture. Now we've got RX480 matching or beating 1080, touche nvidia.
