How to appraise motherboards with Windows 10 bindings

Thread Starter
So most of you probably notice this but when you activate Windows 10 now, it binds itself to the motherboard. I have confirmed this on several used motherboards I've acquired that activated windows 10 from a fresh install. (A couple recycled business computers minus the original hard drives and a friends used motherboard)

So my question is, how should we appraise/expect to be appraised when we want to part out a system or sell a motherboard that had a previous windows 10 install on it.

Should a $50 motherboard be appraised @ $150 since it basically comes with a free Windows 10 licence valued at $100?

I personally do not think it should add any value to a used mobo, since most people will have had their Win10 license deactivated & transferred to their new mobo. I know that is what I did when I upgraded my mobo last fall. Although, I did just sell my old mobo & the buyer did tell me that he was able to just switch his boot drive over to the new build without any issues. He said Win10 shows it is activated without him having to call MS CS, but I have Win10 home & he has Win10 EDU so that does make me wonder a bit.

I also agree with having no added value as windows 10 keys can be bought legally for pretty cheap, and just calling MS support (which has become a lot easier since there's a website for it now) fixes any activation issues.

I wouldn't sell the motherboard with the windows key bound to it, unless there was an agreement with the seller. Even so, no added value.

How do you un-bind it then? A friend gave me his old Intel DZ58SO board, I threw my own hard drive in it, installed windows 10 and it was activated right away.

I mean, if the seller doesn't bother with un-binding, you basically get a free OS.
