Reports of RX 480 damaging PCI-E slots - Page 7

Not only that, look at the condition of his case. Bent on the very bottom, hard drive cage looks mangled. "GPU temps did not exceed 78 C when playing, so I don't think it's a temp problem" I highly doubt his card stayed that cool over clocked with a heater (8350 oc'ed to 4.5) on a pull config and poor case airflow. There are too many variables in this case.

That's what libel and defamation laws are for. The problem is you're not going to waste your VERY expensive crack corporate legal team on regular Joe schmoes. So unless they can positively link those people to a larger entity and monetary gain, they would go after that 'shadow' entity, not single specific people, otherwise... they're not going to do anything.

If some review site said they'd fried their Mobo, I might be worried and that might be beneficial for AMD to go to court over, although most of those guys are also small fish and it would be a hallow moral victory that wouldn't make the news and everyone would continue believing whatever they want, whether true or not.

I'm a NVIDIA fanboy but I don't believe any DECENT motherboard PCIE lanes are failing from this card
The top x16 pcie lane on my z77x ud3h died with a heavily overclock 7970 mining doge coin; and the card also kind of died [had to be down clocked to work] that was only a year after purchasing the card and only 2hours of mining
But that was the cheapest not garbage motherboard; and gigabyte support was trash; it was a gigabyte motherboard and gigabyte gpu... They never sent me my mail in rebates either! [They owe me over $100 in rebates from their junk]....

Not to be off topic but have you considered removing this from your signature so that people might take you slightly seriously?

NVIDIA > AMD People told me a 7970 to a 770 would be a side grade but after seeing the difference here I believe a 660 wold have been an upgrade over the 7970 . So much smoother no more dropped frames or stutter.

If I was gigabyte I wouldn't give you a penny either thumb.gif

Has this been verified or is this a claim by some opportunistic shill who wants AMD to fund his next Intel/Nvidia purchase?

Edit:

Is this guy serious? Nothing but a troll who claims he has fans at the front, the sides and the top yet all we can see is the PSU fan. The HD cage is totally bent out of shape, there are no drives (HD/SSD or optical) and he claims that he's running an FX8350 at 4.5 on a Hyper 212 (just a guess). He obviously hasn't cleaned his system in a long time as the cooler, PSU fan and board are dusty. I don't know what the quality of his board is but as it's an Asrock I assume it's not the best in existence as their PCB's are usually thinner than other board makers.

I was on a budget too once (always on a tight budget compared with some) but this is just terrible.

Man it has been a loooong time since I seen a build with the PSU drawing in hot air from the CPU. I still don't see how his temps were under 80 with that setup. Hell that 4.5 fx 8350 would produce so much heat in that pull config that it in itself probably smoked the PCI E slot devil.gif

Looks like he damaged his case in the process of putting the card in. I'm almost certain he damaged the board then too.

My 8320 at 4.5 produces so much heat my H220-X has a hard time coping with it, let alone whatever low end cooler he's using. There is no way I will blame the GPU for his awful system and the guy claiming that his 380X throttles could very well have the same kind of system.

Today I had a 15 USD case delivered that is of much better quality than that rubbish he's using. It's got one 12CM fans at the front, 2x12 at the top, 2x12CM on the side panel, one12 at the bottom and one 12 at the top side. He has the money to buy a 480 but no sense to buy a semi decent case at least.

This is highly likely as he's ripped the cage out with enormous force.
