Sadly DX12 doesn't even do much to help with Total War. Maybe someday the game will get a new engine, and not be modularized and patched for 64 bit / Dx12. The chaos gods of SEGA wouldn't allow such wasteful spending though.

Well like he said, it will happen eventually. There will be a full DX12 and Vulkan takeover. Mostly DX12 I assume, even though Vulkan is preferable for being open source.

DX12 is still in the beta though,. AMD gpus have gains, but not as mind blowing like Doom's Vulkan is.

What does annoy me, is that barely anyone look into CPU gains. Total War games always bring the best CPUs to their knees. Maybe once DX12 is out of beta, someone will do a proper CPU round-up in this game.

That's the thing, Warhammer and most other DX12 games are hardly true DX12 games. It's just a last minute addon. CPU usage is the same in Warhammer on DX12 vs DX11, there is no evidence of reduced CPU overhead and improved multicore/multithread usage. Total War brings CPUs to their knees due to the lack of proper multithread/multicore support. All DX12 does in this game is enable asynchronous shading I believe, hence the small gains for AMD and no gains for NVIDIA.

Gamegpu.ru does CPU roundups, so you may want to check there.

PC Gamer did some CPU scaling tests early on and it showed good gains. However, the test is not ideal since it emulates I3 and I5 from an I7 chip, and no AMD CPU benches as well..

GTX 1060 outperform RX480 in tomb raider, and they were using the lastest patch in this review

I say once BF1 comes out it will be the first DX12 to lead them all. Dice has experience with low level API since BF4 with Mantle. Even BF4 which came out 2013, 4 years after DX11 still had DX10 support and a low level API. You can see the difference though. CPU overhead was much better under BF4 DX11 then BF3 DX11 due too removal of DX9 on BF4. By the time games support only DX12 as minimum specification DX13 will be out.

I wonder if BF1's DX12 implementation will be more impressive than Ashes of the Singularity (which seems to only exist to showcase DX12).

For Nvidia it will probably be the same. AMD will get the "Mantle" like performance so it will not fall back at 1080 and 1440 due too the CPU. 4K will be just CPU. If there is Async then probably the only thing that will make it faster for Pascal and GCN.
