[DSoG]Report: Total War: WARHAMMER runs 27% slower in DX12 on NVIDIA’s hardware - Page 6

where are you guys seeing nv cards running worse in dx12?
they do compare to amd's but both have improvements, just more in fury and rx200\300 ( because their performance in dx11 was pretty bad)
in the end both are similar lol more or less 5fps between fury and 980ti

maybe in nvidia games :rolleyes:but on DX11 GCN is on par with Maxwell . Now in DX12 (with Async)
R9 390x matches a 980TI easily, R9 290/390 beats / match 980 , all being 130-250usd cheaper.

its about Total War: WARHAMMER lol
i was talking about the only benchmark of that game(at least in this thread) in dx11-12, amd gain a big improvement but the final performance is similar to nvidia
post #56 of 360
would be nice if they re-bench it with the 1070 / 1080 since pascal brought some async improvements.

Only that Tomb raider isnt a game built from ground for DX12, and probably is DX11 optimized

Yea, the problem I have with that is that Neither is Total War: Warhammer.. Neither is Hitman, Quantum Break, Forza 6, or Gears UE. The thing is... Hitman's engine has always favored AMD gpus, and the other games listed were designed with GCN in mind. Which is what I'd attribute AMDs performance to, moreso than DX12/Async.

AotS might be the only one built from the ground up for DX12, however it's not the best benchmark, and is clearly skewed towards AMD as well.

It's still too early in DX12s lifecycle to make any huge claims imo. Sure you can say that AMD's mid-range performs much better, and I definitely would agree with that. It does give AMD a better price/performance value. However I wouldn't go so far to say yet that one side is terrible in DX12 while the other is amazing.

They both perform similarly in the high end, with AMD offering better value in the mid-range like they always have.

When the landscape changes to DX12 only titles and the API has matured a bit.. then we'll see who performs better in DX12 games.

The thing about benchmarks is...

As far as RoTR goes when DX12 patch came out AMD cards like my 290X sow lower DX12 performance than DX11. Recently I tested my 7970 because I sow some reviews where AMD was beating Nvidia even in this game. I got 38 fps DX11/1440p/High and 45 fps DX12/1440p/High. Going to test 290X later this week and see the improvements.

Then if AotS is the only DX12 focused for ground should be the most relevant, because shows most benefit from DX12.

Maybe it is early but most of DX12 games show the trend that GCN is working better on DX12 than Geforce Kepler that was the competitor´s offering at release, and also Maxwell which was released 1-1.5year(s) later

DX12 doesnt have to mature game developers have to improve their graphic engines/Games for DX12
