Thread Starter
Hey everyone it's been a while since I started a thread here and I'm glad to back in the thick of things.

I recently upgraded my machine to a Z170 build and I did a bit of overclocking on my new 6600k.

I quickly found out that I did not win the Silicon Lottery and my chip only will comfortable go to 4.7Ghz. 4.7 is enough for me.
My criteria for overclocking are that I keep at 1.4v and no more than 80c under load. Pretty simple.

I will be looking at temperatures as well as any ability to overclock more. Any improvement above -3c or a +100mhz increase will be noted down as a positive result.

Here are my system specs:

ASRock Z170 Gaming ITX
6600k
Coolermaster Nepton 280L
Corsair DDR4 4000 CL19
Silverstone SFX 600
GPU: 760
SSD: Intel 180GB
Case fans: 4x140mm Aerocool DS, 1X120mm Aerocool DS
Case: Custom computer desk with built-in PC
Ambient temp is 21c for all tests.

Now as a base level I know that this CPU at 50% Cooler fan speed and 47X100 / 1.4v works at 80c so we will keeping more or less the same settings and see what additional cooling we can come up with.

What I wanted to do in this thread is try a bunch of different things to try in increase my overall overclock an/or reduce temperatures.

Here is what I have planned:

Round 1:

100BLK, 50% Cooler fan speed, Standard Shin Etsu TIM
Result: 79c,(Baseline)

100BLK, 50% Cooler fan speed, 50% Rear motherboard fan speed, Standard Shin Etsu TIM
Result: 80c (No improvement in Temp or potential Mhz)

100BLK, 50% Cooler fan speed, 100% Rear motherboard fan speed, Standard Shin Etsu TIM
Result: 79c (No improvement in Temp or potential Mhz)

100BLK, 100% Cooler fan speed, 100% Rear motherboard fan speed, Standard Shin Etsu TIM
Result: 78c (No improvement in Temp or potential Mhz)

130BLK, 100% Cooler fan speed, 100% Rear motherboard fan speed, Standard Shin Etsu TIM
Result: 83c (4c Worse and No improvement in potential Mhz)

Round 2 of tests. I will be de-lidding this chip.

100BLK, Delid, Coolerlabs Liquid Metal TIM, 100% Cooler fan speed
Result: 64c (I managed to get to 4.8 pretty easy after de-lidding.)

I also managed a 4.9Ghz with 4000 speed DDR4

AND A 5GHZ with the same 4000 speed DDR4!

Now I did go a bit above my 1.4v limit to hit this but the temps were still really manageable.

I will be looking for ways to lower the CPU voltage to a better range, I would really like to stick with the 5Ghz if possible.

If you guys have any tips on a few setting changes I'm all ears.
