Sorry I am lost.

You can manually start to record gameplay or let shadowplay record for you and you can capture the last xx amounts you set it. They all go to the folder you select.

What am I missing here?

Correct. When you do manually, i'm not sure if there's a temp file or not (Never checked). When you record the last X minutes of gameplay via the Shadowplay Buffer system, there is always a temp file in the temp folder.

Not even a big deal though, I don't see why it matters if there's a temp file....

Oh yeah that's true. But that's normal though. Shadowplay is really meant for when you forget to record but something amazing happens.

I have my shadowplay set to 1 minutes in some games and only upto 2-3 in others. lol.

nVidia was not so kind as to add NAND to the GPU. You can go through settings/registry and move the temp files for it if you like, but it does indeed save to the HDD/SSD.
Jesus dude, I know it's saving to the temp folder I selected but that is nowhere near the same thing as it always saving to my drive. Shadowplay keeping the last 5 minutes of footage in a temp folder is not the same thing as it saving every minute of footage until I manually delete them.

Stop being so condescending.

Then don't say it doesn't, because it is in fact always writing to your HDD.

And https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-classic-how-to-use-the-replay-buffer.103/

Shadowplay is not special. It's just there as the SuperEZ Button for people who don't take the couple minutes to set up a real streaming application.
