[TPU] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Doesn't Support SLI? Reference PCB Difficult to Mod - Page 8

They will push as far as they can get away with. The only way to stop it is if it impacts their bottom line. See my response to Code Red below.

There are a lot of people with DVI still. You have to remember that the audience that buys this GPU is not going to have the latest and greatest in tech. It's a mainstream GPU.

Here on OCN, the 2560x1440 Korean IPS monitors are still quite popular.

Nvidia has moved all of their cards up a price segment, and created two "new" tiers: TI and Titan (reason I say new, is the TI branding obviously isn't new). And all these.... what's a soft way to put this... sheep have lapped it up like milk. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

"Oh please Jen Hsun, please release the GTX 1060 as the 1080 and ask me to pay $700 for it, PLEASE! I need to buy you a new jacket!"
With all that said, until the market changes, my used 780TI's will be the last Nvidia product I buy. You guys can continue gouging yourselves.

+ Rep

What worries me is if Nvidia gets a monopoly (they have 80% share already so they arguably already are). If AMD goes under, it could get really bad for us consumers.

Although SLI doesn't scale that well, I am always against taking features away for those who want them. It's a loss to consumers.

Worse still is the power cable on the cooler (if this is also true on the 6GB GPU). Water cooling or custom coolers like the ones Arctic Cooling and similar companies make are now out of the question, barring some very risky soldering which voids the warranty. You are basically dependent on AIB versions. For water coolers, that is an issue, as AIB cards are less likely to get waterblocks for their custom PCBs (and often when they do, they are overpriced).

I fear that people are getting milked here and we will witness some very bizarre Stockholm Syndrome. AMD is no angel (far from it and personally I know quite a few people in person who have quite some bad blood due to their layoffs), but we need competition it seems. How much worse does it have to get? This is very bad for us consumers.

Oh and remember these are USD prices. That means the rest of the world pays even more.

I'll give Nvidia the benefit of the doubt since it was only a single generation (as far as I know) but it could very well happen again. Unless Kepler was inherently hard to code/optimize drivers for due to it's architecture.

It is a not a what-if question. The GTX 980 and the 980Ti have been making relative losses compared to the 290X and the Fury X. Sure, the Fury X has worse OC headroom, but it has made some relative gains from drivers.

The same thing will happen with Pascal once Volta comes out. Without a hardware scheduler, it is not physically possible to optimize for DX12.

lol your lost man its going to be 6gb not 3gb and it will smoke the rx480 in both power consumption and performance.

Expensive Nvidia GPUs is not a new thing.rolleyes.gif

The 8800 ultra was $850 back in 2008... $1k for a modern card is not unreasonable.
Even my ATI 9800pro was $750 aud back in 2003.

Interesting.

They made some major sacrifices here. Price is going to be crucial, but I expect them to edge out in terms of performance over the 480. This 'no frills' strategy makes me think TSMC is much pricier than GloFlo's and Samsung's 14nm. It looks like a bit of a desperation move, but with a low density, high clocked Pascal chip I bet they'll win out on performance by a fair margin. Looking at the skimping on this card, it better translate to competitive pricing too.

Could you leak more of your insider information for us? Tell us what you know.

Die size? TSMC or GloFlo/Samsung? Big pipeline? GDDR5X? How good are yields and what price difference are we looking at for this smoking hot performance? Why are the skimping on basic frills like SLI and a cooler that allows a person to repaste the block without re-soldering?

Enlighten us.

and here i just started using dvi about a month ago, was vga until then. i think people forget these cards are meant to sell to everyone around the world, not to the top 1% of consumers who jump on the latest fads ASAP for no reason
