If a big player with deep pockets bought them, they could be competitive at the high end within 2 years.

I'm not too sure about that they've put a lot into GCN and it could pay off in the next few years. I could be wrong but pouring in money there is always diminishing returns look at intel's cpu gains there's only so far they can get with billions in R+D.

I think big players would be scared to tackle such a risky venture.

GG AMD.
Hope Zen works out better for them than this "always late to the party" strategy they have with GPUs.

But it's cool to arrive late to the party. Oh wait this is the tech business. smile.gif

Releasing in August does seem way too soon, but you never know.

Could be October release for Titan and Q2-Q3 2017 for 1080Ti maybe

A single GTX 1080 is not quite comfortable at 4k with max settings for newer games. Even a modest 25% increase in performance would push it over the top.

I am not looking forward to the hefty price tag though. Going to be pretty hard to convince the wife I need this card...

Yeah. 1080 is not enough even OCed. I am not spending more than $700 on a GPU so which ever brand makes a card that can hit 60 fps at 4K will get my money.

Since GP104 is now $100-$150 above earlier midrange chips, I bet one can expect $1199 or something for the Titan.
And $899 for the 1080Ti in 2017

Which is absolutely absurd if you ask me. I'm hoping these prices eventually reach a point where they start shrinking the dGPU market. I'd much rather pay $500 a year on an entirely new console refresh, rather than have to pay $700 for a mid range card. Let alone 900-1200 for enthusiast grade cards.

If I'm reading this right, the Titan P will have 16gb of HBM2 and a few more cores like usual and dual 8 pin power connectors while the 1080ti will have 12gb HBM2, a few less cores, and a single 8 and 6 pin power connector.

Also, thanks in large part to the awful SLI scaling, a single Titan P will perform on par with SLI Titan-X cards.

That about sum everything up?
The Titan P will also cost you your left eye, right hand and right thigh.

But yeah other than that all good.

That's odd I'm getting nearly double the frames in the more popular title games that I play. Even in some older games I'm getting 65-75% increase. Not what I would call "awful." Maybe when you get into 3 or 4-way SLI. 2-way has been excellent in my experience.
