And at that rate I doubt cannonlake or overclocking will be the savior
(1) Cannonlake is a tick, so 10nm alone should give some perf increase
(2) they might feel the need to get off their asses and increace perf gains more this time to decisively beat Zen(+) which will be the first real competition in a while

although I doubt they look at Titan P/Volta and think "oh man, we gotta make out CPUs faster so we dont bottleneck Nvidias monsters" redface.gif

This is like groundhogs day...

Here we go for the 3rd iteration of "Here's the new TITAN..." With no mention of the 1080Ti to follow, cutdown, gimped, or better performance wise than the Titan model. I'll not buy another Titan anywhere near launch until the TI drops to compare.

WCCF source article incoming. They live for this crap.

Ooohhhh, I doubt it too......

When we're talking about feeding gpu's, we're talking about IPC right? Not more cores....that's why they made that supposed joke of buying the 6700k over the 6950x

Skylake didn't shatter the earth compared to haswell in terms of IPC, I HIGHLY doubt cannonlake will perform any miracles against skylake

So if there is bottleneck now.....volta with its performance increases, is really going to be gimped hard

Also imagine wanting 2 1080 ti's with the dream of doing 100+ fps at 4k......

But alas......no cpu in existence can handle that configuration

Don't worry. That's only true in DX11. With Mantle/Vulkan/DX12 there will be no bottleneck wink.gif

I cant see an OCed fast Intel CPU bottlenecking it, especially at 4K/5K

I can see a GPU being bottlenecked even by a 10/20 cores CPU if it is powerful enough, because even with a lot of cores, most game engines are still not multi threaded, which gives a good core with high clock speeds and higher IPC, an advantage.
Single core performance, the 6700K is much better than the broadwell-E multi core CPUs, even the X one (and yes you can OC it, but well, you can OC the 6700K as well no?). The 4970K is even better. The 4770K is even better.

I can definitely see a good OCed 6700K or a 4970K giving better performance in games compared to an OCed 6950X.

LOL

DX12 benchies I've seen have 0 or even negative SLi scaling....but one can dream i guess

RIP Pascal.
with Polaris performance/watt ratio it's more likely that the card you're describing is gonna need a CLC to keep a clock speed high enough to beat a 2GHz 1080 running on a semi-passive air cooler
