The only way I see that changing is if AMD unexpectedly dropped a high-performance Vega card into the market in the fall. But that too is highly unlikely.

Nope that is where u are wrong, if vega was competitive, it wont be a titan, it will be a 1080 Ti WITH a titan.

Look back all the 3 generation Titan, has Nvidia ever release a titan just to compete with AMD. No, its always the 780 Ti and the 980 Ti.

When the past 3 Titan were release, is there any competitive product from AMD? No. This show the titan were a different league and Nvidia will release them when and where as they like. It wont be affected by AMD in any single way, so is the price.

I think you have other problems, i find it hard to see less then 30-35 fps in any game with ultra settings on 4k, i know this card is made for 4k but on 1080 should cover 60Hz area easy.
Check your PSU /Motherboard / Cpu / Ram

I tested Witcher 3 on 1080p with absolutely max settings i didn't drop below 90 fps anywere.

(1) use Gsync, helps a lot with fps drops

(2) what is your CPU/RAM ? you should be getting even minimum fps above 60 @ 1080p on a 980Ti (except maxed out Ashes/Hitman I guess), unless you have trash CPU or some other issue

If this thread had more garbage in it Greenpeace would protest it.

Pretty sure that the 1080ti and Titan-P will be 512 bit cards at this point, the GQDR5 (x) cuts the number of chips needed in half. We may see the 1080ti being a bank-disabled/reduced bit-width of the 512bit TitanP.

I was like that back when I was running a fixed refresh monitor, and before I moved to nvidia and had 290 in my system I found fps drops in games to be the #1 issue.
g-sync/freesync is the way to go, not only on high-end systems, but on mid-range ones too. that 980Ti is just going to waste a lot of its capabilities if you're not gonna run it on a adaptive sync display

I agree. People told me 2 years ago my 980 was overkill for 1080... What they fail to realize is A) I ran 4 monitors at that time.. and B) minimum FPS can never go below 60.

The Division is the worst culprit of my games, but there are MANY that dip below 60 fps on the highest graphics settings... I'll be looking to pick up a 1080ti for this rig and throwing my 980 into my gfs rig and selling her 980 (mine is SC)

Wasn't so back then.

In order of release:
Titan... 2688:224:48
780Ti... 2880:240:48
Titan Black... 2880:240:48

---

Screw sync of any kind, just run ingame fps limiter.

but yes: OC 1080 > OC 1070 = OC 980Ti

I dont remember exactly the clock of my oc 980ti G1, i didnt have it anymore. But i wrote some stats and fps with different save points, so i can compare with my 1070. But i took several days to overclocked my 980ti last year, i got great number clock and stable at 100%. Sorry i really cant remember clock number. I did it with stock cooling fan, but my case have a great airflow, temp was great

I played all my games with my Samsung SUHDTV JS8500 55".( i had a 4k 28" and a 4k 40" in the past too, but i prefer the js8500 at 55") So i need a titan P , drop in 30-35 are not great in 4k, still this tv has very little motion blur, but 60fps and no drop is the best way to play , more fun,no tearing, no blur. i use adaptative vsync option, with my 1070 dirt rally at ultra in 4k never drop below 60,(AA disable) but one graphic setting is disable in ultra, if l enable it , i lost several fps, i dont remember the option setting name, but i cant see a visual difference

If you're not too prideful to turn AA, tesselation, etc off, the 1080 does just fine at 4K.

jaggies bother some people and tesselation can really enhance the visuals
i'd argue if you're gonna turn all that off might as well not run at 4K
