[Various] Pascal Titan could be 50% faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 - Rumoured to launch in August - Page 90

There isnt any reason to why Titan P and 1080 cant be on the market simultaniously.

Titan P will make 1080 seem like a bargain
post #892 of 956
Sure they can as long as Titan P is sufficiently more expensive than the 1080, which means >$1200 at a minimum.

Maximizing sales.

Why sell you one GPU in a generation when I can sell you 2 or 3.

The 1080 doesn't need the Titan P released to sell. It's selling just fine as is.

I see AMD pushing out something extra nice for the BF1 launch in October.
they already have that something

480 crossfire

even though CF is ass overall, you can/should count on BF1 supporting it and SLI (possibly/probably from release day even)

if you only want AMD and need something fast for BF1 and only mostly care about BF1 - 480 CF is honestly a decent/good option

480CF is actually a really interesting option going forward. CF's implementation for VR is rather good. I'm sure BF will support it great as well. As for other non-VR titles... that remains to be seen. You do get some pretty nice bang for your buck when it comes to DX12/Vulkan with the 480, but non-VR CF support really comes down to the game itself.

They can run 1080p, like the 980 TI and Titan before, they can't run 1440p properly, like the 980 TI and Titan, they are still useless for 60hz 4k, so what do they do? Yes I'm happy about better performance but they need to keep up with the industry I feel.

I take your point about the Hz criteria, as a ex-CSGO player anything under 120hz is garbage to me, but I realize that's just my personal opinion.

However, nowadays especially with IPS 144hz monitors there really is no excuse I feel. I don't know where you get the idea I'm a troll, because I'm unsatisfied by the current graphic card market? That makes me a troll? Or for having personal standards that do not conform to most? Or because I dislike resolution over framerates? If you read you'll find others agree with me and are not as impressed with the new cards performance as most.

I was making the point that if you (not you personally) don't care about frames rates than you can play on 4k monitors, the technology used for what you like exist already, mine does not. You don't think that's a fair point? I didn't mean that because someone doesn't care about 144hz then they would be satisfied with 15 fps.

And yes I agree it's a very subjective criteria and I don't expect the entire industry to follow it. But you have to admit it is a very decent criteria to use, because if a graphic card can't run 144hz on X resolution then you know it's not going to be able to run 60hz in a few years on the same resolution with similar games. It's a good way to see if a graphic card has "mastered" a resolution. Even then I'm not completly insane about it, I did mention that the 1080 can't run The Witcher 3 on 1080p with consistent 144hz but I don't use the top graphic AAA game (RPG even) as a measure for everything.

It's a valid opinion, but it sounded more like an attempt to preach than you stating your opinion smile.gif. I don't fault you for wanting 144Hz in everything, though it's not even something that's been realistic at even 1080p. I mean by that logic, every card, including the GTX 1080 is useless for 1080p because it doesn't achieve 144Hz in many games at all:

The 8gb of Vram is a nice touch as well with upcoming games like BF1 already pushing the limitations of 6gb. If you consider yourself a high-end or ultra gaming enthusiast you must except running SLI and you must accept it now. Sure you may be able to max out some games with a single card but most you will have to dial things back a bit. Most AAA games support SLI and with only 2-way you should experience a smooth gaming experience with great scaling. The days of SLI stuttering and skipping are a thing of the past with these new gpu's. In fact I haven't experienced any SLI issue's since the 7 series. Its been fantastic.

Yes you are right that to run capped fps on higher resolutions than 1080p you pretty much need something in SLI. Personally I'm looking at going with a 1440p 144hz gsync monitor combined with a 1080, hopefully that will be enough to run most games at high without AA and other high-end settings. In any case, your point is well taken as far as SLI is concerned and I stand corrected.

I have to agree with rcfc89's post above. 30% gains from SLI are largely a thing of the past so long as a profile is available for the game. There are reviews outlining GTA V scaling around 90% with GTX 1080 SLI at 4K. SLI is not perfect, but it's not the demon that it used to be, or the one that everyone makes it out to be still.

According to steam survey in June, there were more 1080(0.09%) out there Titan X(0.08%), so Titan owner like you make up so small a portion of the user base that serving your $1K cards now instead of next Q1 is not going to make a significant impact on Nvidia bottom lines. Nvidia's revenue will be propped up by 1060, and their profit will be propped up by 1070/1080, Titan sales would have very little impact on their financials due to their extremely limited volumes.

http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/gtx1080/
http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/gtx1070/

Nvidia might have their reasons for launching Titan P in Q3, but poor 1070/1080 sales is not one of them. If the fastest card avaliable at $700 is not selling well, selling the fastest card available at $1000 is not going to help one bit.

Exactly, we don't know sales numbers. We don't know yield numbers... Titan X was never going to be a huge seller especially gimped in DP (Scientifically shunned), so comparing it to that has less weight in my opinion. Halo cards like the Titan are also not for huge numbers in any sense. We have speculated that some cards were produced as Nvidia's method of "catching the falling knife" that is broken yields for Tesla/Quadro, and getting something out of it.

I'ts funny how we both look at this though different lenses. :D I don't think either of us has enough info to be credible however we try lol. I admit it, we don't have enough credible information on what the hell Nvidia is doing and why. they seem to march to their own drum which in their position is admirable.

Taken from wikipedia ( not sure how true it is though: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Quote:
According to LG, OLED response times are up to 1,000 times faster than LCD, putting conservative estimates at under 10 μs (0.01 ms), which could theoretically accommodate refresh frequencies approaching 100 kHz (100,000 Hz). Due to their extremely fast response time, OLED displays can also be easily designed to be strobed, creating an effect similar to CRT flicker in order to avoid the sample-and-hold behavior seen on both LCDs and some OLED displays, which creates the perception of motion blur.[67]

Here's a nice article on sample and hold motion blur on OLED's:

http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/oled-motion-blur/

So we still need some kind of black frame insertion or very high refresh rates to get rid of motion blur even on OLED.

Anyway OLED is indeed the future and hopefully the near future so we can get rid of the trash IPS/VA/TN panels we have nowdays(the day my sony fw900 crt died was a sad day frown.gif ) it still feels kinda far away frown.gif hopefully by 2018 we'll have some consumer high refreshrate oled monitors under 1k...
