Im not sure about TPU, guru3D, tweaktown etc.

That is unfortunate, with the BIOS update they should be able to adjust the power delivery and fix that. I think AMD said today should see an update according to their Reddit AMA.

Many reviews show clocks, and from what I remember every reference 480 did throttle. @1080p it was running around 1200MHz, @4k only @1100MHz or similar...

The founder's edition 1080 also throttled at 4K from 2100mhz down to 2000mhz even with fan speed at 100%.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-pascal,4572-11.html

Not sure about at stock settings at 4K because most reviews that I've seen don't show any of those details.(unless I missed them)

you are comparing throttling at max OC vs throttling below reference clocks ..

OC issues are your own to deal with

but if the card is supposed to play games at 1266Mhz out of the box and it goes below that then thats a different matter

I see that as a good thing... talking about 480. It means an AIB card @ only 1266MHz should be as fast as 390X/980

Which is why I said I'm not sure about stock settings, if you can find a review with a 1080 running 4k at stock and it showing the clock speed it's running I'd be interested to see it.

And no if it goes below the boost clock it's not a problem, as long as it doesn't go below the base clock it's working to spec.

It also happens with the founder's edition at stock settings at more standard resolutions, often the clock speed goes closer to the base clock than expected. Raising the fan speed can alleviate it though afaik.

If these are priced accordingly, and can actually hit 1400+ with ease, we have quite a steal on our hands thumb.gif

Problem for AMD though, is people looking for a new card will look at reviews, and those reviews will probably be of the reference 480.

AMD needs to learn how to nail a launch or they won't gain back much market share.

Generally the big reviewers will test aftermarket cards when they come out. I suspect we will see some new benches for the Sapphire Nitro card, especially if they can get up around 1400Mhz with an OC.

Agreed.

But the 1266Mhz is the Boost clock. We all know what that means. 1120Mhz is the standard.

If it can't make standard clock speed because of throttling then that is an issue.

I can't wait to see benchmarks of the AIB cards. 1380 or so boost clock is quite massive, especially if it doesn't throttle. Hopefully we'll see that stock 980 performance after all thumb.gif
