Connecting Soundblaster Z to M-Audio AV30's

Thread Starter
I've purchased a pair of AV30's to repalce my ancient Logitech 5.1 setup and need a bit of advice on how to connect them to my PC.
Should I use the bundled 3.5mm to RCA cable using the regular output from my Soundblaster Z?
Or would I be better off using optical cable to a basic DAC (like a Prozor or MUSE) then RCA to the speakers?

SB-Z -> 3.5mm to RCA -> speakers

SB-Z has better DAC than those cheapos, and if your worried about the bundled cable, get a quality one for ~10€ for your peace of mind.

(probably not the lenght you need, but for the direction)

(well, at least mine cost 10€ in germany tongue.gif, but those are pro-cables(recording), so you get alot more for your money, than if you would buy comparable quality for consumer-cables)

Connect the SB-Z's front speaker jack (3.5mm) to the (RCA) line-inputs on the back of the AV30.

I connected them using the supplied 3.5mm to RCA cable and so far they're not bad. They'll need time to run in to get the best out of them though.
Bass is rather lacking, so I might connect the Sub again.

I'll no doubt purchase one of those Cordial gold plated cables in the near future. Also, is there any benefit to replacing the basic red/black wire between the speakers? I'm curious if a shorter length or higher quality cable will help.

Cables won't improve sound tho, unless you had some thin wires for 6 meter away speakerboxes before.
It's only for peace of mind, and from my experience with a couple of RCA-cable, the cordial being the best, there is still no perceived anything in SQ differences.

So better safe your money. tongue.gif

Cables is all Physics, and there had to be alot wrong until it would degrade SQ, that's even more true with short RCA-cables.

Doubt replacing the wires will do anything

Monoprice has their 5" studio monitors on sale for $119, normally $171.
They are basically relabeled M-Audio BX5 studio monitors.
