The RX 480 is fake 4GB, too! Lisa lied to us about a midrange card and no one is complaining!

Quite probably, it's likely something really really stupid like the graphics card only being able to do VR on the PRIMARY MONITOR just like how it can only game on it already.

A simple question: Did they try a different DP to HDMI cable instead of the included one?
It could be that because the DP on the 1080 is 1.3/1.4 compatible and the 980 TI is 1.2, the adapter might be the issue more than the card itself.

But it is easy to "lets bash nvidia before we even have the whole story" just for the sake of it biggrin.gif

Oh, wait, you meant you would rather pay through the nose for a midrange GPU that doesn't even support the technologies it was marketed for, and a HMD built on lies, DRM, and data mining than a HMD that gives you an entirely new set of possibilities and actually does what it claims, and either stick with your current GPU or pick up a superior price/performance (especially when it comes to the related technologies of VR, DX12, and Vulkan) option from AMD?

I'm honestly not sure what everyone's obsession with supporting cancerous companies is all about.

The 1080 can do VR on the HDMI. Have you gotten the GFE force you to sign on as a DRM? Anyone forced you to install GFE?
Lets start the lying train because... reasons rolleyes.gif

BTW an update on toms site from nvidia:
Quote:
"We are aware of user reports of an incompatibility when plugging HTC Vive into GeForce GTX 1080 using the DisplayPort connector. HTC and NVIDIA are investigating the issue. In the interim, we recommend users connect HTC Vive to the HDMI port on GeForce GTX 1080," said Bryan Del Rizzo, Senior PR Manager, Consumer Products.

What I don't get is that why does VR even bother with HDMI and not just go straight to DP. DP Bandwidth >HDMI...

That is a good question.
Since DP is pretty much free, and if they are using HDMI they have to pay royalties. Though my guess is compatibility for xbox and ps, in order to connect to their future versions which will stick to HDMI and not DP, since there are almost no TVs using DP.
