Worth upgrading to Rx 480?

Thread Starter
Running a 7970 @ 1200 MHz and I'm not sure if I should get a 480 or save money for a 1070. I'm playing in 1440p. The prices for the 1070 are crazy here in Germany 😑. It's almost double the price

The 480 is a very capable card for the money and ranges between a gtx 970 and gtx 980 in performance and tends to be right at or under the amd r9 390x depending on the game. for 1440p it will be a very solid upgrade overall but dont expect to run all games maxxed out right off the bat, most will run just fine maxed but a few hard hitters will need a drop or 2 on the settings. overall its a solid card, if the 1070 is ungodly overpriced i wouldnt buy into it and would either wait it out or look into the 480, though i highly recommend a aftermarket version because the reference design is total crap tbh. hope this helps.

Nvidia prices in Europe are criminal. Why don't you wait for 490 to come out, check the price/performance on that, and decide then? 7970 should carry you a while longer, better get the best deal possible.

I think that the rx 490 will be a dual gpu card since we got full Polaris 10 with the rx 480 and Vega is coming 2017. But yea i guess I'll wait

i think its honestly hard to say how amd is going to name and run their next launch, the way they are launching their cards is odd and interesting to say the least.
