I sincerely doubt Vega will have a 256-bit bus. AMD has already confirmed it will be an HMB2 chip. If Vega is going to be redesigned, at this point, to be a GDDR5 chip.. It's not Vega. The 490 could be something entirely else, I guess, but it's definitely not the Vega any of us were promised.

Yes, looked more closely at the chart so it will be over 256-bit but probably not equivalent to an HBM bus width. So if it's not Vega, why aren't there any leaks on what the 490 is?

I think you guys are missing the fact that it was clearly a typo. There's no 8GB 480 on that list, someone fat-fingered the 8 to a 9.

It's not that simple, because all the other cards begin with RX except the 490.

Like I said, probably just a typo. Notice that the 8GB version of the 480 is missing from the list. Take that into consideration, and then consider that it also says it's GDDR5.. and you've probably got yourself a typo.

I don't know how much trouble it would be to port the Polaris design over to TSMC 16nm, but that's probably the only thing that would produce a chip superior to the current Polaris 10 that isn't Vega.

So because the 8GB version of the 480 is missing, that automatically means it's a typo? Yet every single card has RX listed, except the 490.

This sounds similar:

I understand skepticism, but it's not like the card won't exist.

Yeah that's odd. It should have an RX on it given this info:
Quote:
Radeon will be invided to two subseries, the RX and non-RX. The RX parts will offer more than 1.5TFLOPS performance and at least 100GB/s of memory bandwidth. In popular games like DOTA 2 and LOL RX cards will show a 60FPS frame rate with a resolution of 1080p. The Radeon 400 without the RX prefix won’t be as fast, though.
Quote:
To start it off, all graphics cards with more than 1.5 TFLOPs of performance and 100GB/s of memory bandwidth get the RX branding instead of just the 4xx. For the Tier 5 cards, there will be a bit of mixed branding with the RX 460 and a plain old 460. Given the information provided for Polaris 11 which is the RX 460, we can expect the 460 to feature around 896 shaders and have low clocked GDDR5.

There will be a RX 495, not sure if AMD would retain HBM2 just for that given that they have set such a strict nomenclature for the 400 series... never know.

Well, no. It automatically means it's very likely to be a typo. I've been pretty responsible about conveying that I'm making a hypothesis, here.
I think I was being quite courteous by not ridiculing the notion of an unannounced chip that flies in the face of everything AMD has said about the 490 or Vega thusfar.

Let's just break it down, shall we?

My explanation:
8's are close to 9's.
We're missing an 8GB 480, and we've gained an 8GB "490"
AMD has already confirmed the 490 will be Vega, and also that Vega will have HBM2.
This mysterious "490" has GDDR5.

Your explanation:
Top secret, highly disappointing 8GB GDDR5 chip.

Well it's quite reasonable to suppose that HBM 2 will make the cards quite expensive. So, perhaps Vega with HBM will be launched later, but they do have bigger die cards ready with GDDR5 @ 8Gbps at lower price points to compete with the 1080 and 1070.

1070 is doing just fine with the 8Gbps GDDR5
post #20 of 104
Guys 490 is not Vega... Vega is going to be branded like Fury. A bigger Polaris die is much more likely.
