im a little salty they decided a Note 3 wasn't fast enough so google flaged it as incompatible. it was a pain to edit system files to get it to work, But then i found out the servers are down sad-smiley-002.gif

This should definitely still be in beta, not sure why they released it in such a crap state.

That would be good if it used the same great easy to learn, difficult to master battle system as the real games. In it's current state, "battling" is a joke.

So, it looks like Nintendo just snagged the millennials who grew up playing Pokemon or watching the TV show. I'll be 30 in a few days and outside of major world events, I haven't ever seen so many Facebook posts about one topic. All of my actual friends on Facebook who are my age or one or two years difference are posting about Pokemon Go. People who I never would have thought would post on Facebook about playing a video game.

I wanted to check it out but quickly realized it's US only.

Why?

It's not worldwide launch but you can still play:
Android users can simply download/install .apk
Iphone users can simply create US/NZ/AU account and download through there.
Winphone users can't play due to unsupported intel cpu's yet :[

Been playing about 2 days, my area of stuff isn't super dense but this is what i have so far.

It's a staggered launch. They will add support for more areas as the game continues.

No. People downloading the game and playing in areas that aren't supported is EXACTLY why the servers are performing so poorly. There are more users than intended. People playing in unsupported areas are just part of the problem.

No, the problem is because Niantic foolishly believed that only a small portion of people would want to play, instead of realizing just how powerful the demand was. It's not like they've had almost an entire year to hear hundreds of thousands of people clamouring as to how much they can't wait for release day...

.....Oh, wait.... ....It's been an insanely hot topic since the announcement of the game a year ago so their marketing teams would have to have deliberately ignored just how popular it is.

Poor planning and preparation on Niantic's part is what's at fault, not people using an APK to play a game.

i got my wife to try it today. went to a few of the smaller parks around my home, and we caught a few Ekans, ratata, abra, mankeys and a nidoran. i think i might have to go to san francisco to get some water pokemon. my friend spent all night in a park by himself, catching nocturnal pokemon.

i am a bit worried about actual battles at lv 5. some of the locations are closed on weekends, or have signs posted about intruders/security.

Also, if i miss a throw, i lose that pokeball, correct? my wife has nearly run out of pokeballs, and i noticed the shop, i have to buy more. she also caught a Zubat and a sandshrew in front of a safeway.

is there a way to remove lower CP (combat Points) pokemon from the backpack? she has a bunch of repeats from around the neighborhood, with lower Combat Points...

also hoping a windows phone version comes out. since it defaults to Google Maps, i read an article also that windows phone gets no love (maybe because bing maps?).

With locations, make sure to keep an eye out for private property or secured areas... Sometimes people had submitted portals for Ingress in those types of areas, and not all of them were weeded out despite multiple reports from Ingress agents about such.

When you throw a pokéball and it misses, you do indeed lose it. In order to avoid buying more, a much wiser course of action is to visit pokéstops, whereby once you get about 20m or so from it (it seems to be about half the range of Ingress portals, and they share the same database) you then click on the pokéstop, which gets it to zoom in on your screen and pretty much fill it. At that point, swipe from one side to the other, and it should spin. Once it spins, it will shoot out "bubbles" containing items. You can usually get 3-4 Pokéballs by doing this at every stop. Recharge rate seems to be the same as Ingress portals, which is 300 seconds aka 5 minutes.

As for duplicates of Pokémon you do not want, if you pull up their screen (click on the Pokémon itself) there should be a button near the bottom labelled "Transfer". Note that this is something that cannot be reversed, and will give you cookies if I remember correctly.
