Yeah, GTX 1060 = GTX 980 with less OC headroom. Looks like FF is great for GPU companies in the fact that it overclocks terribly, forcing a wider gap between performance tiers.

Also makes me wonder what is coming later this year. Will we see AMD vs 1080 like what happened with Fury, with 1080 Ti uncontested in most titles?

both this and 1060 are the perfect 1080p cards and they will probably play 1080p games maxed out @ 60 fps for several more years at least

well:

480 has 2304 shaders @ 1266Mhz

1080 is about 70%+ faster than 480 overall (maybe 60-65% in DX12/Vulkan only)

4096 Vega will have 4096/2304 = x1.78 more shaders, which is something like ~x1.55 more performance by itself (Im guessing ?), but thats assuming they keep the same clock, which might not be the case .. but then it also has HBM2 and maybe some other tweaks, more ROPS etc.

so with 4096 shaders you should expect Vega to equal or come very close to 1080 depending on how they clock it

1080Ti (or Titan) should be anywhere from 25-30% to 50% faster than 1080 - Vega will need a monstrously big die to match that .. whether we will see any such Vega or whether it will be big enough to trade blows with 1080Ti/Titan - noone knows atm

Does anyone know if the ASUS 1060 Turbo has a vapor chamber cooler???? I'm really hoping its a non-ref board with a vapor chamber cooler with cooper so I can use CLU... No reviews for the card yet though. Can't even find it on ASUS's website...

Wow, just purchased my first nvidia card this millennia. 1060 zotac mini $225 with the paypal code. Going into an itx build when I upgrade to the real chips of 16/14nm.

That's too low for me, I need 90fps+ average though I don't need ultra settings, high is visually the same quite often and runs faster.

1080p fine, but 1440p is a compromise IMHO with 1060 and 480 and it's comparable older GPUs 290x-980.

Depends on what you play. I can hit 100+ fps at 1440p with an R7 265 using high/max settings in a number of games. Granted they are all console ports. redface.gif

I need to get something newer now that I have a 1440p monitor, needs to be for the right price though. RX 470 looks to be it unless a GTX 1050 comes around with better perf/$ in that price range. I can also live with ~60fps though.

and here I am, having got a G1 1080 for 1440p 144hz and still thinking "its just barely enough even for some DX11 titles right now, will surely be upgrading to Volta when I can, to hit 100+ fps Ultra settings 1440p in every game"

and Im not even sure I need all that =/

Well I did it, ordered my first Nvidia card since the 8800gts (technically I had a 970 a couple weeks)...

And I'm pretty pumped to have something running in my system again the 480 custom cards where taking too long, couldn't wait any longer.
And the 1060 performance is looking solid.

Ordered a Zotac 1060 mini for reference.

The cooler price is right in the card price. AMD are not giving anything for 0$. Definitely not for the cooler. The only thing you are getting for 0$ inside the 480 box, is the air. and even then, I'm sure they are trying to suck as much out of there as they can before it is shipped.

Give us a break with that BS will you?
