Sure some cards have better designed coolers but are more expensive. Stock clocks are irrelevant when you will OC. Most of the 1060s are fine with a dual fan cooler. It's a low power card.

Ok great, thanks!

So, even though they are clocked different, that doesn't really translate into any noticeable or significant performance differences? For the most part any sort of clock difference can be made up by overclocking the card?

reference vs AIB may be a difference since the clock difference is significant. but not aib vs aib. most aib pascals are in the 1900-200 range. let's say one aib runs 1900MHz and the other 1950MHz, that's only 2.5% difference, and translated to games it may amount to fractions of a fps, like 0.5fps
as far as overclocking aib cards, thinking an extreme version of a card overclocks better than a cheaper one can be misleading. the rxtreme version has more potential to cool down the card when it's got a lot of added voltage, but that's it. You can buy a $620 basic gtx 1080 acx 3.0 that will reach the same clocks as $800 kingpin version, or even better ones, depends on your luck with the chip. of course kingpin can be modded and overvolted and it's gonna take it but that's only relevant for ppl who wuld do that.

For 1060 I recommend MSI TwinFrozr version, dual fans cards are quieter than triple fan ones and msi twinfrozr VI cooler is extremely good quality.

the price is quite a bit more than say... zotac amp or Palit Jetstream.

Finally got my card earlier today, runs like a champ!

Overclocked to JUST under 2.2 and max temp is 67c (currently winter though)

So I am really impressed.

Was worried about the zotac mini cooler but like I said... really impressed lol

The 1060 may be a good card now and perform better than its competition (the 480) but in 6 months or so the 480 will be the better investment.

Thankfully, most people don't buy GPU's as Investments. wink.gif

Will be interesting to see the Steam Graphs for next month.

If AMD performance increases at the same rate it has in the past, by this time next year they would be roughly equal to the 1060 now, BUT nvidia will still be doing optimization for that long as well, and typically AMD cards don't start gaining on the nvidia card until after nvidia's next gen comes out. So, I would say in 1.5-2 years expect 480 to be beating the 1060 by bit. The long haul really means the long haul

Not even saying DX12 won't probably be good enough at least till the end of 2016, so we'll probably see mature DX12 games when? Q3/4 2017 ? Again, who says nvidia won't be improving their DX12 side and vulkan? Who says rx 480 is going to have the upper hand on DX12 in like a year? Nobody, buying either 1060 or 480 requires faith, sounds stupid i know, but we only are certain about benchmarks trending now, so 1060 DX11 is undoubtedly faster, is less power hungry, costs less in most of the places, good availability of custom AIBs, on the other hand 480 is slightly better on some DX12 games and better in Vulkan games? Has more memory, custom AIBs availability is poor in EU, better in NA, costs more in most of countries, at least for now.
I'd actually just wait to let everything mature more, and then pick, but it's a very confusing situation.

from what I read JS is a v.good cooler when it comes to temp/noise ratio.
