nvm that getting a 980 card to 1500Mhz (24/7 stable gaming etc.) is very much a PC enthusiast level task

most ppl that buy 1060/480 tier card just stick them in and forget about them .. or do a mild OC

but if at stock they fail to reach stock 980 level (or come within ~3%) then we can bring the wrath down on them redface.gif

and how do you know that 2050 will be its max OC ? theres 1080 that go over 2100 or some select ones even to 2150
hahaha, now that's a difficult task ? iirc every 980 and their mother could do 1500mhz.

that's not the max oc but avg max, just like 1500 for 980, some go over some under. redface.gif

it's not supposed to beat 980 at higher than 480s price but 480 was supposed to beat 980 ? lol we have this kind of performance since last 3 years don't we ? huge amount of hypocrisy going on here. ( not talking about you tho since you never expected much from 480)

Yet another in the looong list of stuff that doesn't matter once nvidia fails at or doesn't support it.

DP for HMD
3 WAY SLI
4 WAY SLI
DX12(the hype was REAL back when Nvidia showed pre maxwell hype slides touting superior dx12 support to AMD)
SLI in general now

Power consumption and heat are back on the books after Fermi is a memory.

5+1GB? $249 for 2.5+0.5GB? No SLI.

If they paper launch this month will they even have any chips and cards to sell this year? Or will it be another supply fail like the rest of 10x0 series?

To be fair,

The DP for HMD thing can probably be patched
3/4 way SLI is both terrible at scaling, and an enthusiast level endeavor
DX 12... Okay I'll give you that one.

the vast majority of the leaks pre 480 release put it at stock 980 level and I honestly expected just that (to match 980, not beat it .. m a t c h redface.gif)

970/390 level was worst case IMO and it happened

and given that, yes, I think matching a stock 980 would be a very respectable level for 1060 now, especially at 192-bit

also the higher price can even come from the Nvidia brand name alone and ppl will still buy thumb.gif

but if it has a much better ref cooler and lower power draw and less heat AND its faster then its even better

Multi GPU is now irrelevant as well. All these guys here on OCN that buy 3 and 4 GPU's at launch to bench and brag are dust in the wind.

EDIT: Explicit multi adapter which allows you to use any two graphics chips together will not matter either because the best gains come from the main card being AMD.

DOUBLE EDIT: hard launches don't matter

Agreed, I was hoping it would match the 980 as well. So if the 1060 can, it'd be nice. Still not buying it (Which would suck for me) but it'd be nice for those that decide to buy it. Guess i'll just buy a 4GB reference, flash bios to 8GB, slap on waterblock and clock to 1400 (Which, if kept cool enough, won't pull 1300 watts out of the wall like some of these gasguzzlers tend to do)thumbsupsmiley.png

480 will match and even beat 980 even in dx11. that's just how GCN rolls thumb.gif but i believe it won't beat 1060 for at least a year in dx11, dx12 is other story. because 1060 has better available rop and BW per cc compared to 1080. 1060 should beat 980 otherwise it's a fail considering it has got rop/bw upgrade from 960 and price increase.

as i said i'm not talking about your expectations or something. but many others.

It still won't matter when they can alternate in producing frames? (I forget what it's called).

I'd imagine that being a bit of a game changer, since it would theoretically scale better?
