That difference in power translate to heat output/fan noise etc. It can matter for some smile.gif
RX 480 is 199$ for 4Gb, 8Gb is 239$.

It's $199 for 8GB with a BIOS flash.

EDIT: Scummy move by AMD though.

Might be just for first few batches.

I am talking about the figures in the Nvidia 's graph :gtx 1060 vs rx480 when they make a 1.1 look like a 1.5. All the same around here, full of fake charts

"GTX 980 Performance" on their press kit is a bit of an exaggeration. It'll end up within 10%(slower and faster) than the 480 for more $$$$.

Sorry you're post looks fine for my arguing but doesn'tseem reaaly accessible in the meaning (faster /slower?), can you rephrase?

i should have said give or take 10%. basically it means that it will a bit faster in some games and a bit slower in others. honestly we'll see. those charts(not the faked on) nvidia put out don't show it being faster than what the 980 can do relative to the 960 and they have always had a cheerfully loose NDA and early reviews when their products were in a favorable position. The 1080 reviews and NDA were up with over a week to spare before the launch date for example, while the 1060 will be shrouded in mystery until the minute you can go and buy one.

Asynchronous Compute =/= Asynchronous Shaders.

Pascal has an emulated Asynchronous Compute using fast preemption, but it does not have simultaneous compute + graphics queue execution. The discussion has been done to death.

Honestly it remains to be seen if it's any liability in the long run. It won't matter once Volta drops.

The amount of whinging about a 3GB card in here is hilarious. What % of games are truly VRAM limited? I have never even gotten close to filling my 3.5GB VRAM at 1440p with my GTX 970. Even the most intense games at highest settings my GPU can run only fill about 2GB. What makes you think that suddenly games will start using 3GB out of nowhere and render this 1060 obsolete?

whats funny is these people who whinge about the 3GB vs the 4GB or 8GB 480 are the same people who likely make fun of "noobs" who buy slow cards based on the big marketed framebuffers. "GT 940 with 4GB of ram? Lol nubs buy that, just because they think the ram makes it faster! hur hur"

1060 should be a great card. Its positioned $20 above a card that it will be about 10% faster than, without the crappy drivers, blown PCI-E slots and it uses less power.
