dx11 performance is good enough
so good that even old 3.5GB 970 beats (or ties) 8GB 480 in quite a few DX11 games

Total War: Warhammer
Quantum Break
Hitman
Gears Ultimate
Rise of the Tomb Raider (major improvements recently)
The Elder Scrolls Online
Forza Motorsport 6: Apex
Ashes of the Singularity ( is actually a game contrary to what most say around here, has a campaign, MP, etc. Unlike Fire Strike.. )

Plus the biggest titles left to release this year are all also DX12.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Watch Dogs 2
Gears of War 4
Forza Horizon 3
Battlefield 1

I've also left out all the smaller titles and ones getting patches, point is that DX12 is a factor to consider right now.

Even if there wasn't one DX12 game until Volta came out, some of you do realize a lot of people come to forums to see what to buy, so while upgrading every other year may be fine for you, most people actually keep their cards for a long time. So while you will be sitting on a $1500 Volta card, there will be a bunch of people sitting with the 1060, which may very well (and probably will if Nvidias history is anything to go by) turn out like the 960..

I understand what you are saying and agree to an extent, but not a single one of those DX12 games interest me at the moment. I am still (like many people) playing my backlog of DX11 titles, performance now matters. Now don't get me wrong, if AMD was on time with there releases (I say on time as in saying not behind Nvidia) and offered good enough DX11 performance then why not be prepared for DX12 by going AMD? But as it stands, until I get done with the DX11 games I am playing and there is an actual DX12 game I care about, the first cards out with the best performance at the time I feel like upgrading is going to get my money.

Most green boyz are still playing games from 2013 where their Kepler card is relevant.

Not if NVIDIA can help it.

Fire up any of those games i mentioned game, turn every setting to low. do a run and note vram and fps. now just increase texture to ultra and do the same.

there , you have the proof vram doesn't require any huge gpu power. but it can change the look of game drastically. thumb.gif

you can mix settings with ultra texture for better quality. all it needs is more vram not gpu power.

I hope that ppl who bought 480, hoping that BF1 will be like Hitman or Ashes, wont be dissapointed if it isnt smile.gif

I hope that people don't buy BF1 since it's going to be garbage like Battlefront. they better retroactively bundle that ****.

+1 for me. I will probably get a Vega card later but I wanted something new right now.

Very slowly, but it does appear to be heading that way. I think we will continue to see DX12 as an option (and a poorly implemented option) for a while but it certainly isn't going to be mandatory to have really awesome async shader/compute/magic beans before I get the itch to buy a new card, and probably not even before I get the itch to place that card.

DX12 can maybe be a factor for people who keep their cards for years but predicting the future isn't exactly a science.

there is only one "true" DX12 game so far and thats Ashes aka Benchmark: The Game

1 full DX12 game = good track record ?
https://i.imgur.com/EuW46Ls.jpg - according to what Im seeing here most of the increases come from patch 7 DX12 tweaks which work for all cards .. actual async usage only improves avg fps by a few % and decreases minimum fps by a ton in some cases

and most importantly, all this hw async pride on GCN comes at the cost of perm/mm2, perf/w, DX11 performance etc. its not like its free

None of them, including ROTR now are detrimental on GCN.

Asynchronous Shading is also most likely not going to be in many titles except for Gaming Evolved ones, that's why i haven't made a huge deal about it. DX12 and Vukan are huge deals, however. That's where the industry is going.

Yeah, i get that. I feel the same about most of those games, the only ones I'm looking forward to is BF1, FH3, Deus Ex, and Gears 4. Hitman, QB, never appealed to me, and I'll pick TW Warhammer up in a sale.

I was just saying that DX12/Vulkan performance is a big factor, as most future Tripple-A's (the tier of games that need extra performance, unlike the smaller ones which easily get 100+FPS on any hardware) are all going to be taking advantage of modern rendering techniques. Finally.. thumb.gif
