lol that 3% across all titles they promised to off-set the compatibility decrease was more like 1-3% in 1 or 2 games and 0 in the rest redface.gif

and Pascal has improved too post launch - http://www.babeltechreviews.com/geforce-368-39-brings-performance-gtx-1080/3/

There were several games in the end of 2014 that you cannot max on 1080p w/ 4GB of VRAM - unmodded. It's still a niche but it's been there for years.

A far cry (pun intended) from the claims made about 4GB outdated @ 1080p for years.

That's not what i said. I was extremely specific with my wording on purpose.

3-4GB is for 1080p that's not insisting on maxing every setting.

If you're maxing everything on every game, 4GB hasn't been enough for unmodded triple-A games at 1080p since 2014. There are usually a few settings that allow you to easily and significantly cut back VRAM usage, though, hence the above statement^

more like 3-4 games they tested. and you don't have to use compatibility mode unless your cpu+mobo is stone age, even in that situation cpu will already bottleneck the card and it won't use full power.

and what about 680/770 being slower than 7950/7970 ( even og titan at some games), 780ti vs 290x, 980/970 vs 390/x ? heck even furyx is faster than 980ti/tx on 4k now. even on dx11. and faster on dx12. i'm not saying pascal will get slower. no but 480 will get faster. heck furyx matches 1070 in a game now. more games will use dx12 now where 480 will be faster than 1060. at a lower cost. wink.gif

look at difference between 390x and 980ti in tpu review 4 months ago ( 2k-4k), and look at them now. the gap in performance is less now. and i'm sure people want to wait before dpc issues gets fixed. wink.gif

It's been faster than the 980Ti in 4K in many titles even at release...

However, once compared to a non-reference 980Ti, the Fury X no longer pulls out ahead.

Yes, but look at other gpus i mentioned. isn't that true ? i'm talking about constant performance improvements gcn cards get even after a year or two. which is higher than nvidia.

and iirc people who buy 250$ gpus don't overclock or sli/cfx. according to Mr. ChevChelios. so it's irrelevant wink.gif

This nonsense again. What were you playing in 2014 that 3-4 gb couldnt handle at 1080p/60fps at max settings in 2014 besides Metro LL?

What gpus had more than 3gb of usable vram at the beginning of 2014?
If they perform that closely, I don't see why one wouldn't go with an AIB RX 480. I love my NVIDIA stuff, but I'm never opposed to AMD. I love my some Sapphire and Visiontek cards. While people shopping in this price range may not be a huge market for SLI or Crossfire, it still is a 'pro' to those who aren't swayed by the 'SLI/Crossfire is garbage because I don't know how to do it corrrectly' arguments.

I don't know how to do it corrrectly
short of coding drivers yourself there isnt anything you can do "correctly"

it will still not work or scale in some games, lack support at launch, stutter and other issues

I agree though that if you potentially want to crossfire them later then 480 is the choice

but for single GPU, if the 1060 is indeed faster and the custom prices are close/equal, then 1060 is a no brainer

Cards in the house. Time Spy score is around 10 % faster than RX 480.

source ?

that would also make it faster than a stock 980 in Time Spy
