Now lets see in a year or so if the 290x/390x is matching a 980ti. Obviously joking... I hope.

Based on what I'm seeing, I have no problem what so ever with going AMD this round. DX11 performance isn't nearly bad enough compared to the 1060 (between 7-14% in most games I'd play) to warrant buying the 1060 over the 480. And that's not even taking the onset of DX12 (Which even I expect to take a while, but I tend to keep my cards for 2-3 years)

Seems the 1060 is also faster stock vs OC RX 480 in most of these. That's a pretty narrow margin. I haven't really kept up, but how is availability on RX 480 and GloFo 14nm in general?

Of the six, here's how they break down in opinions:

1 die hard Nvidia fanboy (well, man)
3 meh, no big deal either way (no red team / green team preference)
1 huh? I dunno, my brother builds all my PCs for me
1 worships at the Ruby alter, owns multiple Bulldozer CPUs, still refers to them as ATI cards.

Five of these people emailed me back with a quick, very brief "congrats! enjoy! great choice!, etc. However, one buddy (I guess) emailed me back a grammatically incorrect two page e-thesis questioning my sanity, my manhood, and my masculinity, all while pointing out (in large bold letters loud noises did you see that that it was "people like me" that were ruining this country.

See if you can guess which friend it was.

You can't go wrong either way. The 1060 performs pretty well, if you're buying AIB.

I cant believe people are wasting energy on discussing 480X/1060 that just barely match previous generation midrange chips.

They are borderline low end these cards. In various AMD forums they are posting links after links to AIB 480X this and 480X that like its the next Messiah.
How sad is it when these mid/low end chips are the only cards to be excited about?

Nvidia have overpriced their 1080 to oblivion and AMD have nothing to compete with.

What a crappy launch from both sides it have been

I'm not sure what you were expecting. Were you expecting a 480 to outperform a Fury X? So you were expecting a 4 product jump? 480 > Fury X > Fury Nano> 390X> 390>380X>380?

Thx. 1060 is about 10% faster, but that advantage cripples in dx 12. Seeing how fast games are being adapted to dx12 and new titles are being announced, nvidia will lower their price soon enough wink.gif But for now, gtx 1060 msrp is just about right while comparing it to rx 480. Real world price is just totally meh xD

Because 1060 replaces 970 not 960. 1060 is what 960 Ti would have been. People wanted that card so bad.

Not true. Not everyone is an enthusiast with $500+ to spare on a GPU.
GTX980 performance for $250 is something good.
It's a perfect 1080p gpu for the next couple of years.
