[The Verge] Samsung unveils world's first UFS memory cards — the successor to microSD - Page 5

No idea what this will cost but I just picked up a 200GB microSD for my iBasso DX80 for $70 shipped on Amazon. Of course I wanted the 256GB but the price difference is staggering.

Standard SD is reasonable though. I have a handful of high write speed 256GB chips for my cameras.

Compact flash is quite expensive for the bigger fast chips. I have two 256GB sandisk extreme pro CF chips. UDMA 7 with the film rating 65. I have had these for about six months now. I just looked and they are still listed at $300 each. They were probably 33% higher when I got them.

“The new UFS cards are not compatible with the current microSD card socket. However, we have developed a socket design that can support both UFS cards and microSD cards. We are working with different partners in the industry on this integration for next-generation devices.”

Never heard of people snapping SD's in half...but I have witnessed lots of bent CF pins, so, "In the heat of the moment" I would think SD is safer, albeit slower for most last generation cameras.

Even if you were to break the SD, at least you still can use the camera...in a CF only camera, you might have to decommission it till you get that expensive repair job done...

I imagine that would be the same group of people who slam their keyboards, mice, and monitors to pieces every time they lose in a game and blame the companies for poor quality.

Well there are some pretty flimsy SD cards out there. I have used SD cards after they have been split open but I have never seen anyone break one in half, it would take some serious effort to actually break the card in two pieces so that it was unusable.

Like everything else, you get what you pay for.

UFS is a standard/specification that has been around for 4 or 5 years. This article is about a product that uses that specification, these are the first UFS storage devices.
