Best CPU cooler for i7-4790K / high end intel cpu

Thread Starter
Hello guyz ! I have a cooler on my CPU (i dont exactly remember its name tho) and at max usage it goes up to about 65°C. I know it's safe, but as time goes on,it will move up eventually,so i want to get a new cooler for it. My budget is ~100Euros. I don't want any liquid cooler, and i would like one that fits any intel motherboard (i guess i will change my cpu in ~2 years).
What do you guyz think i should buy ? the Noctua-DN15 is not an option cuz it's so freakin' big,but i'm thinking about the DN14. I've heard great things about it,but if i buy it,will it cool my next,high-end cpu as well ? If you have any air coolers to recommend, don't hesitate !smile.gif
Thanks in advance

That's the one with the water cooling barbs right? Hope those won't cause clearance issues.

Btw, any reason you want to avoid big coolers like the NH-D15?

Cryorig H7, H5 or similar, Thermalright Macho various or similar. You are going to overpay for Noctua coolers about +50% minimum but easily even +100% average depending on location.

The cooler in my sig handles my 4770k at 4.6ghz (1.25v) at about 70*C Without delidding so this cooler can most likely work a lot better with a devils canyon series. (Phanteks U-Type series)

The D14 and D15 are almost exactly the same size.

If you are looking for something smaller there are a number of great coolers - be quiet Dark Rock 3, Thermalright True Spirit 140, Noctua NH-U14S, Phanteks 12DX. I have tested all of them on a 4790K @ 4.6/1.26V, and all handled it with no problem.

Yes, that is the one with the barbs, but they don't get in the way of anything. I used this board in my test bench for about a year, and mounted just about every cooler around on it with no issues.

Good to know, haven't seen many air cooled builds with that board, nor have I had any hands on experience with it.

yeah,my fear is that the D15 won't fit in frown.gif and some say that it's so heavy that sometimes it's not "safe" to hang it up.... i don't really know much about the topic:S i wrote down my setup, and ciarlatano said that it will fit in,so i'm kinda leaning towards it.but dude,do you know it for sure ? MSI Z97 Mpower MAX AC + 8GB Kingston HyperX blu
Sorry to ask you again, but i don't wanna throw my money outta the window you know
