HDD only detected though USB Docking Station not as Internal Drive

I'm hoping to get some help with a little issue I'm having trying to install a HDD I'm using for storing Blu Ray back ups.

The HDD is usually used through a USB 3.0 docking station. What I want to do is install it as an internal drive. When I install it as an internal drive windows does not assign a drive letter, and it reads it as only having 2000gb allocated of the 3tb total. When I took it out and put it back in the dock it worked fine again.

Is there any way to get this drive working as an internal drive again without loosing all my data on it?

Oh god, the damn info is escaping my mind but i know in certain situations and windows environments there is a limit of 2tb per partition / drive space. god. is it 32bit OS... no. damnit. gimme a bit ima look through my books here and try to find it, i just studied it. hoping what im thinking of is right xD

OK. ( of course it was one of the chapters i need to restudy xD ) when you got the drive did you go to Disk Management and format and assign a letter to the drive or have you just plugged it in and went on your way? if so go to your control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management, find your drive on the list, right click and click initialize drive, you going to want to make sure you do GPT partition over MBR because MBR has a limit of 2.2tb per partition, GPT has no limit. and the info on the drive will be erased so you will need to back it up elsewhere before doing any of these options, they all format the drive in one way or another, it sucks but its how it goes sometimes :/ but hey once its setup right your good. Honestly it should be auto set to GPT but there is a chance it might not be if your having the size restriction, right click the unallocated space and click properties, few tabs over check to see what the drive is in MBR or GPT, if it is GPT then try just right clicking the main partition and extending it adding in the unallocated space. i hope this helps you and if you have any issues or questions respond back and i''ll do my best to aid you.

It's formatted right now as a GPT, definitely running a 64 bit OS. The drive is plugged in to the USB docking station right now and windows sees it fine, I can see the files and everything. It just behaves differently when I actually plug it in to the Sata port when I install it in the actual computer. In disk management all the options are greyed out and it won't let me do anything but reformat the drive.
