Looking at 2 gaming laptops I7 6700HQ + GTX 960M 2GB or I5 6300HQ + GTX 970M 3GB? - Page 2

I bought the MSI 6300HQ and 970m laptop you were referencing from MicroCenter a few weeks ago and its an excellent laptop. Although I almost went back and got that Asus deal, but the size and portability of it just turned me off too much. Both were $999 which IMO is an excellent deal even considering Pascal laptops are about to drop. I haven't found a single game that this laptop can't handle beautifully. I upgraded to a second SSD that I had from a previous laptop and threw in 16gb Hyper X DDR4 2400mhz.

Does that Asus have G-Sync? From my research online that model has G-Sync as well? For $999 that Asus in an unbelievable deal if it also has G-Sync. It would almost make me want to lug it around. Hell some G-Sync monitors alone sell for more. You got an entire laptop that is fully gaming capable for $999.

Just my opinion, but it seems like a bad time to buy a laptop with a 9XXm GPU when the 10XXm GPUs will be rolling out shortly. If they're anything like the desktop variants, they'll be considerably better than the 9XX series. Just saying. I'd pay $100-$150 more for a 1070m laptop.

I got the Asus G751 for $999 and yes it does indeed have Gsync.

I had no choice. I was leaving the country a few days after I made the post. I needed something quick. Definitely satisfied with my purchase of the G751. The thing about it that I am most impressed with oddly enough is the battery life. I never thought a massive laptop would last almost 2 hours on battery while gaming.

Did anyone else buy that i5-6300HQ with the 970M 3GB laptop? How was it?

Steer clear of any and all Pascal machines. The thermals on pascal are ridiculous in general and they're as bad as Fermi was. If you think I'm joking, then look at the Founder's edition of the 1080. It's using the same 250w Vapor Chamber cooler off the Titan X and barely keeps the 180w TDP GTX 1080 under "OK" temps.

Stick to Maxwell if possible. The guys over at Linus Tech Tips forums are urging this news onto everyone and it's disturbing to see how much hotter a 120w TDP Pascal GPU is compared to the equivalent Maxwell.

Pfft, I didn't grab anything. I lost my job before I could even consider saving up for such a deal.
