i7 4790K or worth buy new i7 6700k + new Motherboard + DDR4 ram - Please help ;)

Hi Guys,

I just ordered the new GTX 1080 ( MSI Sea Hawk EK X ).

Beside Gaming I started doing more video rendering and working with Sony Vegas etc. and that is the reason why I consider going with a i7 for my i5 4690k ( 4.4 Ghz ) ( in some Games the i5 may bottleneck the GTX 1080? )

Now I am wondering : Is it worth invest ( ~ 650€ for me ) for a newer i7 6700k with DDR 4 ram + new Mobo? Did you get any significant peformance boosts ? Sure DDR4 is newer and maybe the "future" but will DDR3 still do it the next couple years?

What I read so far it isnt really THAT much what u get over a I7 4790k and especially I dont need to buy nearly a whole new PC cause its like the same CPU socket as my current i5

What I am curious about is the synergy with

1. GTX 1080 + I7 4790k + DDR3 2133

or

2. GTX 1080 + I7 6700k + DDR4 3000

is worth the ~ 400€ more cost....

Current Setup:
i5 4690k @ 4.4Ghz
GTX 780Ti with Skynet Bios @ 1290mHz
MSI M Power Z87 Mobo
Hyper X Beast 16Gb Ram

4790K + GTX 1080 is the most cost effective solution. The 6700K isn't worth the money in your case since you are already on LGA 1150. I would save the money for something else.

Was on the same situation as you. Went for the 4790K... no regrets watsoever. Here's a good comparison.
