Need Advice on a New Router

Hey All,

I'm looking for a good quality wireless router that doesn't regularly drop the internet connection.

I'm on Time Warner Cable with an Arris SB6141 modem and currently, a TP-Link N450 wireless router.

My gaming computer is hard-wired into the router and still experiences internet drops, and then I have several wireless devices, such as an Apple TV that will often drop wireless connection, and a phone that, when using the wireless, is slow to the point of being unusable. The most common problem is that the router drops internet connection and has to be reset by being powered down.

I've also tried a Netgear N300 Modem-Router combo and experienced similar problems.

I'm mainly looking for a router that will hold a wireless signal and not drop every 30 minutes.

Any suggestions? At this point I'd be willing to spend $200 just to find a router that won't give me issues.

Thanks!

Two routers with the same problem says it's probably not the router's fault. There may be something wrong with the modem, or it may be a Time Warner issue outside of the home.

Easy way to check, next time you don't have a signal, plug your pc directly into the modem. If you still don't have a signal. your router is not the problem.

A little premise, i am from europe and i don't have any direct experience with Time Warner as a provider, but since you are looking for a router, i can give you some piece of advice.

I would definitely recommend the Asus RT-AC68U, as currently is one of the best routers around without breaking the bank. Mind you, it is old as hardware goes (2014), and rumor has that asus is preparing a successor. However it is still an excellent router and Asus is releasing firmware updates every 2 months even after 2 years, so it is a mature product, as routers go.
