Those are some impressive gains. Come the -snip- on Nvidia. Hopefully they start to get their -snip- together because software gains > upgrading hardware every year.

If you convert 20-30 % of your shader to compute shaders and run it with Async shaders GCN is going to win no matter what.

Nvidia architecture will never match GCN shader array in performance

Actually when they send using a stupid lazy method 1000 units to be rendered in 1000 separate commands to the GPU instead of using 1 command and copy those 1000 same units around instead there is a GPU performance issue. Which is something they were showing ages ago with Mantle and is usable in some games like RTS but not just there, you could have grass objects etc. There is tons tricks and ways to do stuff proper that were said to not be possible with older higher level APIs.

So Total War implements their DX12 render path. AMD sees big gains, Nvidia none. Nvidia is said to be working on it.

Doom releases Vulkan render path, it benefits only AMD. Nvidia is said to be working on it.

At what point do we start complaining about how awful Nvidia drivers are? rolleyes.gif

Just got doom off greenmangaming for $28.79. Downloading tonight will play in the morning on sig rig. Will be playing @ 4k if anyone wants numbers. Will be 1 fury x of course

Also i imagine msi afterburner wont work with it, any other software i can use to monitor system with vulcan?

When you go back to DX11 and realize their drivers were much better suited for that API than AMD ever attempted.

So now it seems the tables are slowly turning, which is kinda nice.

Never? It's not 100% software reason more of a mostly if not only hardware. That's my humble opinion. NV already has what the cards can do at max, but AMD's newer architecture (GCN) was held back by high level APIs. NV wasn't held back or not as much beside rare cases. They will both benefit but not both in the same amount with the current HW archs.

I have a Fury running a 4K monitor but i haven't been able to get DOOM to launch in over a week. I'll see if anything is different.
